  • Patent number: 7265334
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for optic signal power control to maintain a desired or optimum optic signal power level. During start-up, a target value from memory may be utilized to control one or more power levels of an optic signal. There may comprise 2 or more different power levels for the optic signal. During operation, target values may continue to be utilized or an open loop or closed loop control system may be utilized. Compensation may occur for both additive noise/distortion and multiplicative noise/distortion. The compensation for one power level may be expanded or extrapolated to compensate for additive noise/distortion and multiplicative noise/distortion that affect other power levels.

  • Patent number: 7194007
Abstract: Various high speed modem embodiments are provided, for example, having a receiver configured to receive an analog data signal over a telephone line from a first modem, from which digitized analog data signal samples are generated by a processor employing a linear coding process using, for example, a sampling rate of at least 16 kHz with an 8 bits/sample. Following, the digitized analog data signal samples are transmitted over one or more digital lines of a first time division multiplexed bus to a second modem, which may be a digital loop carrier modem, for example. Thereafter, the second modem may demodulate the digitized analog data signal samples to generate digitized data, which may then be transmitted over one or more digital signal lines of a second time division multiplexed bus.

  • Patent number: 7191122
Abstract: The invention improves the encoding and decoding of speech by focusing the encoding on the perceptually important characteristics of speech. The system analyzes selected features of an input speech signal, and first performing a common frame based speech coding of an input speech signal. The system then performs a speech coding based on either a first speech coding mode or a second speech coding mode. The selection of a mode is based on characteristics of the input speech signal. The first speech coding mode uses a first framing structure and the second speech coding mode uses a second framing structure.

  • Patent number: 7181595
Abstract: To decode a composite VLIW packet, assembly code is provided for the bit patterns corresponding to each individual instruction in the packet. The bit pattern for the template in the packet is then matched against a known template. The known template uniquely corresponds to a known syntax corresponding to one of a plurality of known syntaxes, where the plurality of known syntaxes are arranged as a plurality of first level nodes in a tree structure, where each of a plurality of second level nodes in said tree structure includes a combination of instruction types, and where each of a plurality of third level nodes in said tree structure includes an instruction type. The known syntax is then matched to a resolved packet syntax using the tree structure. The resolved packet syntax is then used to provide assembly code associated with the execution of the combination of instructions in the packet.

  • Patent number: 7155386
Abstract: An approach for adaptively adjusting the correlation window for open-loop pitch determination is presented. Correlation between a windowed reference signal (or target signal) and a candidate signal is maximized under most conditions by sliding the reference window by a delta increment in either direction to capture peak energy. The traditional fixed size of the correlation window is maintained. However, the window slides forward and/or backwards to capture peak energy within the window. The position of the adjusting or sliding window is allowed to shift in a small range or increment in either direction to maximize the energy of the windowed signal thus making sure that at least one peak energy is captured within the window.
