  • Patent number: 5441489
Abstract: A catheter consists of a torque transmitting portion which has rigidity sufficient for torque transmission and a flexible portion made of a material having a glass transition temperature for giving rigidity before insertion and flexibility after insertion. The torque transmitting portion maintains torque transmitting ability before, during and after insertion. The flexible portion maintains appropriate rigidity before and during insertion, which enables easy insertion, and gains flexibility after insertion by the body heat, which avoids hurting of the vulnerable insertion walls. Further, the torque transmitting portion may have a structure wherein a reinforcement of a coil or a braid of linear metal wires, specifically flat rectangular wires, is attached thereto to afford torque transmitting ability. Catheters having various functions and structures can be easily manufactured by extrusion-molding, or the like.

  • Patent number: 5208972
Abstract: Apparatus for assembling a grommet and a wire ring for forming a peripheral reinforcement of an engine head gasket opening. Grommets and wire rings are supplied one by one on different supply devices and retained at first and second article retaining positions, respectively. A movable head moves toward the second retaining position and picks up a wire ring. The head then conveys the wire ring to the second retaining position, where the wire ring is placed overlappingly on the grommet. Thereafter, another movable head having a deforming die is moved against the overlapped grommet and wire ring and deforms a flange of the grommet radially outwardly, whereby the grommet prevents separation of the wire ring therefrom. The thus assembled grommet and wire ring are conveyed to a machine for attaching them to the gasket.

  • Patent number: 5179291
Abstract: An access unit for a local area network with loop topology includes a pair of connectors, a relay circuit, a pair of transformers, a direct current signal extraction circuit, a constant current circuit, a controller, and a coil. With the above arrangement, when a workstation connected to the access unit generates a composite signal having a DC signal, used for driving the relay circuit, superposed onto an AC signal for data transfer, only the DC signal component is extracted by the direct current signal extraction circuit to be inputted into the controller of the access unit. The relay circuit of the access unit is then operated. Thus, the signal outputted from the workstation, the composite signal having the DC signal superposed on the AC signal, is applied to the concentrator, so that the DC signal contained within the composite signal activates the relay contact in the concentrator.

  • Patent number: 5173684
Abstract: The invention provides a sensor whose conductive sheet is composed of substantially non-cross-linked thermoplastic elastomer and conductive carbon. The conductive sheet has a maximum of 70 of Shore A-hardness. By virtue of the above structure, the sensor very sharply responds to electric resistance of the conductive sheet against presence of low molecular weight organic liquid such as gasoline and vapor thereof to quickly detect leaked organic liquid or vapor with extremely sharp sensitivity. Furthermore, the detection system of the invention using the above sensor has a simple circuit which precisely detects varied electric resistance of the conductive sheet. The detection system characteristically incorporates an alarm generator to instantly warn operators of the presence of leaked organic liquid such as gasoline and vapor thereof.
