Abstract: A carboxylic ester of a substituted benzene compound having one or two hydroxymethyl groups on the benzene ring is prepared by reacting a benzene compound selected from the group consisting of toluene and xylene, an aliphatic carboxylic acid, and molecular oxygen in the gaseous phase, in the presence of a catalyst, wherein the improvement comprises reacting said reactants over a supported catalyst wherein the active constituents comprise (1) palladium, (2) an antimony component substantially as the oxide thereof and (3) at least one carboxylic acid salt of an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, zinc, cadmium or lead, on a carrier.

Abstract: A process is disclosed for producing a compound, having an oxazolidone ring, by reacting an isocyanate compound and an epoxy compound wherein said reaction is catalytically promoted in the presence of an effective amount of a complex of a Lewis acid, especially a certain metal halide, with at least one Lewis base select from an ether, a thioether, an amine, a lactam, an amide, or a certain phosphorus or sulfur compound.
Abstract: N.sup.2 -alkoxynaphthalenesulfonyl-L-argininamides and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof have been found to be effective as pharmaceutical agents for the inhibition and suppression of thrombosis.

Abstract: There is disclosed a process for producing diacetoxybutane diol by hydrogenating diacetoxybutene in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst in which the hydrogenation is carried out in two stages within predetermined temperature ranges, the temperature of the second stage is higher than that of first thereby obtaining the product in high selectivity with high conversion, and a process for producing butanediol by hydrolyzing the diacetoxybutane thus obtained in the presence of a solid acid catalyst.
Abstract: N-(4-fluorophenyl)-2,3-dichloromaleimide of uniform grain size is produced either by reacting 2,3-dichloromaleic acid, an anhydride or an ester thereof with 4-fluoroaniline in an aqueous medium or by dehydrative-cyclization of either N-(4-fluorophenyl)-2,3-dichloromaleamic acid or 4-fluoroanilinium 2,3-dichloromaleate in an aqueous medium. The N-(4-fluorophenyl)-2,3-dichloromaleimide of uniform grain size provides improved fungicidal activity and is convenient for preparing an agricultural fungicidal composition.
Abstract: There is disclosed a process for isomerization of glucose into fructose which comprises contacting an aqueous glucose solution with glucose isomerase in the presence of iron ion and magnesium ion, said glucose isomerase being in the form of insolubilized glucose isomerase adsorbed on a carrier.

Abstract: An epoxy resin composition which comprises an epoxy resin derived from an ester of an alkadienealcohol; an epoxy resin prepared by reacting an epichlorohydrin and a bisphenol and an acid anhydride curing agent. The cured product has very high mechanical strength and cracking resistance and is useful as an electrical insulating material.
