    Abstract: A polypropylene resin composition which is excellent in transparency and which shows very low pH reduction of the extract obtained in a promoted hot water-extraction test of a polypropylene resin which has been irradiated with radiant rays for sterilization. The polypropylene resin composition comprises 100 parts by weight of a polypropylene resin, 0.01 to 1.0 part by weight of a metal diarylphosphate represented by the following general formula (I): ##STR1## (wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; M represents an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal; n is an integer of 1 or 2; and A represents an alkylidene group); and 0,001 to 1.0 part by weight of a hydroxide of an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal or an element of the aluminum group. The polypropylene resin composition is suitable for use in making medical instruments, containers for foods or the like.

    Abstract: A resin composition for powder coatings that comprises a composition (A) and a blocked polyisocyanate compound (B), the composition (A) being based on both a carboxyl group containing polyester resin having a hydroxyl value of 10 to 100 and a softening point of 50.degree. to 150.degree. C. and a glycidyl group containing acrylic resin having a hydroxyl value of 30 to 150 and a softening point of 50.degree. to 150.degree. C., and further containing a copolymer prepared by reaction between said polyester and acrylic resins. This resin composition is capable of providing an ideal paint film that possesses the features of a paint film prepared from polyester resins (high degrees of smoothness, gloss and strength) and those of a paint film prepared from acrylic resins (high levels of hardness, stain resistance and weatherability).

    Abstract: High concentration-low viscosity polymer-polyols are prepared by polymerizing mixtures of acrylonitrile and styrene in polyols, which are free of any polymerizable carbon-carbon double bond, in the presence of alkyl-substituted tertiary mines. Without use, as a dispersion stabilizer, of organic compounds which have a polymerizable carbon-carbon double bond and terminal hydroxyl groups, there can be obtained polymer-polyols which have a concentration of the polymer of 33-60 wt % and a glass transition temperature of the polymer of 90.degree.-120.degree. C.

The method makes it possible to prepare monoolefins, or a mixture of .alpha., .beta.-unsaturated nitriles and monoolefins in high yield and high selectivity from cheap starting materials, parafins.

    Abstract: A method for preparing a molded article of a crosslinked polyolefin which comprises the steps of bringing a composition comprising a copolymer of an alkenylsilane and an olefin and a compound having at least two unsaturated bonds into contact with a catalyst selected from the group consisting of salts of rhodium, alkoxy compounds and metallocene compounds of metals in the group IVa of the periodic table, combinations of the metallocene compounds and organic metal compounds, and then molding the composition, or carrying out the contact simultaneously with the molding, or molding the composition, and then bringing the molded article into contact with the catalyst, and if necessary, further heating the molded article to accelerate a crosslinking reaction.The molded article of the crosslinked polyolefin obtained by the method of the present invention has a high crosslinking density and is excellent in mechanical properties, solvent resistance and heat resistance.

    Abstract: A leak detection system for gas, steam or the like in a plant yard includes a plurality of sampling modules and wind direction and velocity indicators both arranged around apparatus or equipment in the plant yard. Samples of the atmosphere around the apparatus or equipment are drawn through the sampling modules, and the concentration of a substance leaked into the atmosphere is detected by a sensor module. At the same time, the direction and velocity of wind in the plant yard are determined. Leakage of gas, steam or the like in the plant yard can be detected based on the concentrations and wind direction and velocity. Methods for the determination of the direction and/or velocity of wind, wind direction and velocity indicators, and anemoscopes are also described.
