    Abstract: A method for vapor phase polymerization comprises blowing a gaseous monomer from a bottom of a fluidized bed reactor through a distributor plate into the reactor by means of a blower while feeding a solid catalyst into the reactor to thereby form a fluidized bed in the reactor and conducting a vapor phase polymerization to produce a polymer or copolymer, wherein the blower has a slide or rotational slide part between its discharge side as a high pressure side and its suction side as a low pressure side in a blower body casing, said slide or rotational slide part being provided with a noncontacted gas leakproof seal part at a clearance ranging from 0.7 to 2.5 mm.

    Abstract: An ethylene polymer having small values of Mw/Mn and Mz/Mw, a small proportion of long-chain branches, a high melt tension and a high swell ratio produced by using a solid titanium catalyst component obtained by initially bring a solid titanium composition which is obtained by the contact of a solid magnesium aluminum composite containing magnesium, halogen, aluminum, and an alkoxy group of 6 or more carbon atoms and/or alcohol of 6 of more carbon atom with a tetravalent titanium compound into contact with an organometallic compound, and then bringing the resulting product into contact with oxygen. The ethylene polymer is excellent in moldability, and the molded article obtained therefrom is excellent in rigidity and impact resistance and free from poor appearance.

C. is produced by a process in which copper is electrodeposited from a solution containing predetermined small amounts of a polyether glycol and tin and iron ions. The chloride ion content is maintained below 0.1 wt. ppm. The copper foil is characterized by having copper crystals with atomic cells having a predominantly (111) orientation.

    Abstract: A process for producing refined methacrylic acid comprising the steps of oxidizing methacrolein and the like catalytically in a vapor phase to form a methacrylic acid-containing gas, cooling and condensing the gas to an aqueous methacrylic acid solution, adding to the solution an organic solvent that forms two liquid phases with water to carry out an extraction operation and thereby to obtain an extract, bringing the extract into contact with water to mix them together, separating the mixture into an organic phase and a water phase, and distilling the organic phase. According to this process, highly refined methacrylic acid containing little dibasic acids such as maleic acid and citraconic acid can be obtained economically and without increasing wastes that are unrecoverable to the process.

    Abstract: A silver sol comprises silver particles having a particle size ranging from 1 to 100 nm and a silver solid content ranging from 1 to 80% by weight. The silver sol can be prepared by a method comprising the steps of reacting a solution of a silver compound with a reducing agent at a temperature ranging from 5 to 50.degree. C. and a stirring speed falling within the range of from 1,000 to 10,000 rpm to form silver fine particles; recovering the resulting silver fine particles using a centrifugal separator; and then dispersing the silver fine particles in a medium to give a silver sol having a silver solid content ranging from 1 to 80% by weight. The silver sol or a coating material obtained by diluting the sol to a desired silver solid content and, if desired, adding a binder permits the formation of a transparent conductive film on, for instance, a cathode-ray tube while reducing the production cost.

A tin-silver-based soldering alloy according to the present invention consist essentially of 3 to 4% by weight of Ag, 2 to 6% by weight of Bi, 2 to 6% by weight of In, and the balance being Sn.

    Abstract: A method for preparing molded articles of a crosslinked polyolefin is here disclosed which comprises the steps of mixing polyolefin granules comprising polyolefin granules containing a hydrosilylation catalyst, polyolefin granules containing the copolymer of an alkenylsilane and an olefin, and if necessary, polyolefin granules containing neither the hydrosilylation catalyst nor the copolymer of the alkenylsilane and the olefin, and then heating, melting and molding the mixture in a molding machine.According to the present invention, the molded articles of the crosslinked polyolefin containing no residual crosslinking agent and having improved heat resistance and mechanical strength can be obtained by the easy method which comprises mixing the above-mentioned respective granules, and then heating, melting and molding the mixture.

    Abstract: A porous biaxially oriented film comprising a copolymer of an ethylene having an intrinsic viscosity ?.eta.! of from 3.5 to 10.0 dl/g and an .alpha.-olefin having 4 to 8 carbon atoms, the content of the .alpha.-olefin being in a number of from 1.0 to 7.5 per 1000 carbon atoms and the film retaining the structure which is based upon the microfibrils when it is heat-treated at 160.degree. C. under a constrained state and is then observed at room temperature, and a separator made of this film for batteries. The porous biaxially oriented film exhibits excellent gas permeating property over a practicable temperature range, exhibits excellent mechanical strength and, particularly, tensile strength, and loses gas permeating property when a maximum practicable temperature is exceeded. The film can be favorably used as a separator for batteries.
