    Abstract: This invention pertains to a water-insolubilized resin of a polymer of at least one monomer selected from N-alkyl- or N-alkylene-substituted acrylamides or methacrylamides represented by the following general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 mean individually a hydrogen atom or methyl group and R.sub.3 denotes a methyl, ethyl or propyl group, with the proviso that R.sub.3 is an ethyl or propyl group when R.sub.2 stands for a hydrogen atom, and that R.sub.3 is a methyl or ethyl group when R.sub.2 stands for a methyl group, or wherein R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 form --CH.sub.2).sub.4 or --CH.sub.2).sub.2 O--CH.sub.2).sub.2 in combination; or a copolymer of at least one monomer selected from the acrylamides or methacrylamides and another copolymerizable monomer. The resin has water-absorbing capacity which varies in degree depending on temperature and, when heated, undergoes shrinkage even in the presence of a large excess of water to release once-absorbed water.

    Abstract: A polypropylene resin composition is provided by incorporating a metal salt of a fatty acid and the oxide or hydroxide of an alkaline earth metal, each, in an amount of 0.05-1 part by weight based on 100 parts by weight of polypropylene. The polypropylene resin composition shows excellent thermal processing stability even when subjected to remelting and extrusion molding after mixing of a scrap recycled from the production of multi-layered containers or sheets each of which is formed of a gas barrier layer made of nylon or an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer and another layer made of a polypropylene resin composition.

    Abstract: A melt blow die for use in a melt spinning apparatus includes a die block assembly having a chamber for receiving melt of a thermoplastic resin, at least one array of a plurality of capillary tubes arranged in a plane and having one ends held by the die block assembly, the capillary tube communicating with the chamber in the die block assembly, and gas plates connected to the die block assembly and defining therebetween gas chambers. The gas plates has lips which cooperate with each other to define a slit communicating with the gas chambers and to clamp the other ends of the array of capillary tubes in such a manner that gas orifices are formed between the peripheral surfaces of the capillary tubes and the adjacent surfaces of the lips. A gas introduced into the gas chambers is blown through the gas orifices to draw the melt of the thermoplastic resin extruded through the capillary tubes. The array of capillary tubes may be constructed as a unit which is detachably secured to the die block assembly.

    Abstract: A process for the production of aromatic carboxylic acid in a continuous manner by oxidizing an alkyl aromatic compound in the liquid phase with an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of heavy metal compound(s) and/or bromine-containing compound, which process is characterized by that a part of the reaction gas delivered from the reactor and freed from the condensing components is recirculated by returning it to the reactor at a portion within the gas region. Said process permits to produce aromatic carboxylic acids of high quality, while eliminating the troubles due to foaming occurring on the liquid surface in the reactor.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a polarizing film comprising a hydrophobic polymer containing a dichroic organic colorant in an oriented state which is characterized in that the dichroic organic colorant is substantially insoluble in water, organic solvents and liquid crystals and the dichroic ratio of the colorant is not less than 7 when it is measured with the film obtained by blending the colorant intimately with polyethylene terephthalate, melting the resulting blend and forming it into a film. This polarizing film has exceptionally excellent moisture resistance and thermal resistance.

    Abstract: A double ended ranging drum shearer is provided with a shearer body and a pair of drums disposed at front and rear end portions of the shearer body to be movable up- and down-wardly. The shearer is further equipped with detectors for respectively detecting the travelling position of the shearer body, detecting the inclination of the shearer body at the travelled position, and detecting the heights of drums at the travelled position. These detectors are operatively connected to a controlling device which is connected to a drum height adjusting device. The controlling device operates and stores the drum heights necessary for keeping constant the working height of a mining face in a pit in accordance with output signals generated from the abovementioned detectors, and the drum height adjusting device is operated in response to an output transmitted from the controlling device representing the thus operated and stored data.

The resin composition can provide molded products which are excellent in high-temperature stability, dimensional stability and mechanical strength and moreover have a low friction coefficient and good wear resistance. Therefore, the composition is useful as the material for electric and electronic devices, precision instrument parts etc.
