  • Patent number: 10006311
Abstract: A method of recovering waste heat includes pressurizing a flow of working fluid and transferring heat from a hot gas stream to the flow of working fluid in at least two successively arranged heat transfer sections. At least some of the working fluid is converted to a superheated vapor by the transfer of heat, and passes through an expander to recover useful work. A portion of the flow of working fluid is directed along a branch after having passed through at least one of the heat transfer sections, and bypasses the expander and at least one of the heat transfer sections before being recombined with the working fluid that has passed through the expander. The total flow rate of working fluid can be adjusted to regulate the temperature of the hot gas stream downstream of the heat transfer sections, and the amount of fluid that bypasses along the branch can be adjusted to regulate the temperature of the superheated vapor.

Abstract: A heat exchanger assembly, by means of which compressed charge air for an internal combustion engine is cooled by way of a liquid, includes a housing with a heat exchanger that has a stack of pairs of plates and fins which are arranged between the pairs, and has two longitudinal sides and two transverse sides. Flow plates are arranged in the plate pairs and, toward the longitudinal sides, expose in each case one edge channel within the plate pairs. An inlet and an outlet are connected to the edge channels, and a liquid flows through the flow plates between the edge channels, the liquid flowing in counterflow with respect to the charge air which flows in on one side of the housing, through the fins, and leaves the housing again on an opposite other side.

  • Patent number: 9964346
Abstract: A space conditioning system includes a hot gas reheat section and one or more modulating valves to direct a percentage of refrigerant flow to the hot gas reheat section. The hot gas reheat section includes multiple refrigerant circuits arranged in parallel. A control valve is used to allow the refrigerant to flow through selected ones of the multiple refrigerant circuits in response to the percentage of refrigerant flow directed to the hot gas reheat section, thereby varying the internal volume of the hot gas reheat section available to the refrigerant. Refrigerant charge hold-up within the hot gas reheat section can thereby be minimized.

  • Patent number: 9933216
Abstract: A heat exchanger includes a bundle of tubes, which can be inserted into a tubular housing. Exhaust gas can flow through the tubes. A coolant duct can be arranged between the tubes. The bundle of tubes can have at least one grid-like securing structure which supports the bundle in the housing. The behavior of the heat exchanger with respect to vibrations is affected by outwardly curved metallic springs attached to the bundle of tubes which may be deformed in the opposite direction to the insertion direction of the bundle into the housing. The spring force is directed against the housing in order to dampen vibrations. The heat exchanger can also include an elastic device for permitting a change in length caused by temperature changes.

  • Patent number: 9671176
Abstract: A heat exchanger is provided to efficiently transfer heat between air and a flow of refrigerant in a reversing air-sourced heat pump system. When the system is operating in heat pump mode, a flow of air is directed through the heat exchanger and is heated by the refrigerant. A portion of the flow of air is prevented from being heated by the refrigerant in a first section of the heat exchanger, and is used to sub-cool the refrigerant in another section of the heat exchanger after the remaining air has been heated by the refrigerant. The same heat exchanger can be used to cool a flow of air using expanded refrigerant when the system is operating in an air conditioning (cooling) mode.
