Patent number: 4818315Abstract: The present invention relates to a fibrous absorption body intended for use in disposable products such as diapers, sanitary napkins or wound dressings and also, in addition to such a novel and improved body, a method for its manufacture. The distinguishing feature of the inventive absorption body is that at least one type of absorbing fibers is included therein as well as a binder activated by heat, preferably in the form of bonding fibers; that the absorption fibers are bonded to a coherent body with the aid of the binder; and that its body, due to compression of its bulk volume, will obtain a continuous density gradient throughout said volume which is retained both in a wet and in a dry state.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1986Date of Patent: April 4, 1989Assignee: Molnlycke ABInventors: Maud Hellgren, Henry Zoller

Patent number: 4802884Abstract: A method of folding into packages, in connection with the manufacture thereof, disposable absorbent articles such as diapers or incontinence protectors comprising an absorbent body (1) enclosed in a casing extending laterally beyond the absorbent body and having casing portions intended to seal around the abdomen of the wearer, as well as elastic leg bands or threads (6, 7) affixed to the casing with portions (6', 7') extending at least partially along either side edge of the article at a distance beyond the absorbent body. The ends of the article are folded in with approximately equal lengths toward the mid-section of the article, which is thereafter folded together in the same direction into a four-folded state. The elastic portions (6', 7') at the center of the article are simultaneously held laterally stretched so as to encompass the laterally positioned article ends. The folded article, upon release of these elastic portions, is held together thereby in the state of a compact, four-folded package.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 1988Date of Patent: February 7, 1989Assignee: Molnlycke ABInventors: Arne Froidh, Lennart Persson

Patent number: 4781297Abstract: A package for sterile articles, comprising a paper part and a plastic part connected to the paper part along longitudinal and transverse lines. The plastic part comprises a linearly oriented plastic film material which can be torn in its direction of orientation. This direction of orientation is parallel to those longitudinal lines, and tear indications on the plastic part at one end of the package are parallel to and disposed between but closely adjacent those longitudinal lines. The paper part has edge portions that are folded over toward each other. The longitudinal lines secure the plastic part to the outer sides of those folded-over portions, said folded-over portions having free edges that are between and spaced a substantially distance from the tear indications. There is a sterile article in the package, those edge portions being folded over the edges of the sterile article.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 1987Date of Patent: November 1, 1988Assignee: Molnlycke ABInventors: Rolf Abrahamsson, Mats Berencreutz

Patent number: 4762520Abstract: An absorbent article such as a sanitary napkin or a diaper comprises an absorption body (9) accommodated in a casing (11). The casing is composed of a carded fiber fabric made in one piece and containing at least 5% of melt fibers, preferably polypropylene, sub-divided into parallel streaks (1, 3, 4, 5, 6) having different melt-bonded patterns. There are thus provided streaks of varying structures which are adapted to their individual positioning in relation to the absorption body (9). The casing (11) seals around the absorption body (9) with at least two layers (6, 2) on the side of the absorption body facing the user, the outermost layer (2) having a substantially tighter bonding pattern than the inner, loosely bonded and voluminous layer(s).Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 1987Date of Patent: August 9, 1988Assignee: Molnlycke ABInventor: Leif Wallstrom

Patent number: 4690137Abstract: The invention relates to a surgical drape suited for use in urethra surgical procedures. The drape is used in combination with a surgical sheet used for covering the torso and legs of the patient, with the patient's legs placed in a raised divergent attitude while the surgeon operates therebetween. The surgical drape is mainly characterized in that it has a substantially triangular shape and in that fastenings are provided at the corners of the triangle, these fastenings preferably having the form of a double-sided adhesive tape or coatings of bonding agent or pressure-sensitive adhesive substances. Those fastenings provided at the base corners of the triangle are intended to be secured to the surgical sheet in the vicinity of the lower legs or feet of the patient, and the fastening at the other corner at the site of the operation, so that the surgical drape hangs from its three corners in the shape of a bowl.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1985Date of Patent: September 1, 1987Assignee: Molnlycke ABInventor: Martin Starzmann

Patent number: 4688563Abstract: The invention relates to an arrangement in a surgical drape. A prime characteristic feature of the arrangement is that it consists of a separate sheet assembly comprising an apertured attachment sheet, which is intended to be fastened over the area of a patient within which a surgical procedure is to be carried out, and a protective sheet which has a working aperture located therein and which is provided in a region around the aperture with structure for firmly fastening the protective sheet to the attachment sheet at the aforementioned region, such that the aperture in the attachment sheet lies opposite the working aperture in register therewith. This region of the protective sheet around the aperture is preferably rectangular in configuration and has the same shape and size as a working aperture in the surgical drape. Prior to putting the arrangement into use, the protective sheet is folded to a shape which fills an area congruent with the aforesaid region.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1985Date of Patent: August 25, 1987Assignee: Molnlycke ABInventor: Carl-Otto Hanssen

Patent number: 4634440Abstract: An absorbent article, such as a diaper, a sanitary towel or bandage, having an absorbent core, a liquid-permeable topsheet intended to be in contact with the wearer when the article is worn, and a liquid-impermeable layer arranged on the opposite side of the absorbent core. The liquid-permeable topsheet comprises a perforated but otherwise liquid-impermeable layer, the perforations comprising straight ducts which are of uniform width along the whole of their lengths. The ends of these ducts freely project away from the topsheet and extend into the absorbent core. Fibers extend into the ducts in a manner such that the fiber density in the ducts decreases in a direction away from the free ends of the ducts, so that the fibers form capillaries which taper toward the interior of the absorbent article.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1985Date of Patent: January 6, 1987Assignee: Molnlycke ABInventors: Leif U.
