Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically switching functions associated with a leading radio to another radio on a channel is disclosed. The method includes receiving, from a leading radio by at least one other radio operating on a channel, an associated timing signal via at least one control timing message. Other radios use the timing signal to synchronize transmissions made on the channel. The method also includes receiving, by the other radios, an indication that the leading radio can no longer provide control timing messages. The method further includes maintaining, by each radio on the channel, values for various elements associated with radios operating on the channel and selecting a new leading radio from the other radios based on priorities of the various elements.

Abstract: Methods of enabling late entry into an on-going spread spectrum call are described. A late join frame replaces, and has the same size as, a traffic frame. A late join slot in the late join frame contains sufficient information in preamble and sync subframes to permit a target to join the call. The traffic slots in the late join frame replicate data such that call quality of the call is substantially unaffected if one of the remaining traffic frames is not received. The preamble and sync subframes frequencies may be the same as, or different from, preamble and sync frames frequencies during a call establishment phase of the call. If different, the preamble and sync subframes frequencies are selected from one or more frequencies. Use of the preamble and sync subframes frequencies is compensated for when selecting the traffic slot frequencies to obtain uniform utilization of the spectrum.

Abstract: A communication system is provided having an improved user interface in which an audible indicator is played out from an audio accessory to confirm radio transmission of a message sent from the audio accessory in response to activation of a wireless push-to-talk (PTT). The wireless PTT may be located on the audio accessory itself or embodied as a standalone device. The wireless PTT may be operated in conjunction with a two-way radio and a wired or wireless audio accessory device. The audible indicator ceases being played out of the accessory in response to deactivation of the wireless PTT and ending of the radio transmission.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for radio link maintenance at a mobile radio in a wireless communication network. The disclosed methods and apparatus help a mobile radio maintain a radio link by regularly monitoring frame synchronization, regularly checking a scrambling sequence of a mobile radio against that of infrastructure equipment, and regularly detecting and/or recovering from fade conditions. In the event the radio link can not be maintained, then the disclosed methods and apparatus will cause the mobile radio to switch to a control channel so that the synchronization, scrambling mismatch and/or fade issues may be corrected. In one implementation, the disclosed methods and apparatus can be implemented at mobile radios in an Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) Project 25 (P25) compliant system.

  • Publication number: 20120129480
Abstract: An apparatus and method for receiving and processing multiple independent, uncorrelated RF signals is presented. The apparatus includes a Hybrid-Direct Conversion Receiver incorporating front end branches, protocol-specific digital processing branches, an interference detector, a correlator, and an offset control for controlling oscillator sources. The front end branches each contain a preselector that filters received signals and a mixer that down converts the received signal to an IF offset from a reference frequency by a unique offset. The bandwidth of an IF processor is partitioned into sub-channels corresponding to the different offsets and is wider than the combination of the sub-channels. The interference detector and correlator determine whether a particular desired signal is degraded by interference signals and select a new sub-channel. This information is provided to the offset control, which adjusts a LO source coupled to the corresponding down mixer accordingly.

Abstract: A method, a system and an evolved nodeB (eNodeB) that enable user equipment (UE) to switch between carrier groups in a multi-carrier network. A carrier selection and switching (CSS) utility identifies a first and a second set of pre-configured groups of carrier frequencies that are subsequently assigned to a particular UE. The CSS utility notifies the UE of the assigned, pre-configured groups of carrier frequencies and provides the UE with system parameters associated with the first and second pre-configured groups of carrier frequencies. The CSS utility signals the UE to initiate communication via the first preconfigured group of carriers. Based on the occurrence of pre-established conditions, the CSS utility utilizes a switch signal to indicate via physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) to the UE (a) when to begin utilizing the second group of preconfigured carrier frequencies and (b) when to make subsequent switches between carrier groups.
