Abstract: The present application discloses a cordless charger for a wearable patient monitor. When a patient (10) is diagnosed with a heart condition, or suspected heart condition, they are prescribed a patient monitoring system. The system includes monitors (12) that the patient (10) wears to collect the data of interest. Each day, the patient swaps the monitor (12) he or she is wearing with a fully charged monitor (12) from a cordless charger (14). In this manner, a fresh monitor (12) is always available for monitoring the patient (10). The cordless charger (14) includes a battery (50) that powers the processes of the charger and recharges batteries (34) of the monitors (12). Data from the monitors can be either offloaded to the charger memory (70), or transmitted to a remote database (32) via the patient's Bluetooth enabled cellular phone (30) or other like device.
Abstract: An apparatus and a system is provided that may be utilized to determine oil migration and oil displacement from a pre-oiled air filter. The present invention may also be utilized to determine if oil is displaced from the air filter onto a portion of the apparatus for visualization to a user. The present invention utilizes a demonstration apparatus having a system for forcing air through the oil subjected air filter thereby attempting to force displacement of the oil from the air filter. The apparatus utilizes a blowing means whereby the oil infused air filter is subject to higher than normal air flow and whereby the apparatus has a deflection portion whereby if oil is displaced from the air filter, it is deflected onto the deflection portion where it would be physically viewable to an observer present in the vicinity of the apparatus.

Abstract: An optical beam shaper comprises a polarization-dependent phase adjustment member which applies a phase pattern of equal magnitude and opposite sign to two orthogonal polarization states. In a preferred embodiment the beamer shaper is a dif tractive element made of a birefringent material, such as a photo-polymerizable liquid crystal polymer frozen in a uniaxial alignment, said dif tractive element comprising a plurality of zones, each zone having a stepped thickness defining a plurality of steps. The beam shaper can be used to introduce astigmatism to a polarized light beam or to undo the astigmatism to a beam with an orthogonal polarization state. The beam shaper is advantageously used within a detection device, such as a fluorescence scanner.

Abstract: An in-the-ear (ITE) physiological measurement device (2) includes a structure (4) formed for easy insertion into multiple shaped and sized ear canals. An inflatable balloon (6) surrounds an end portion of the structure (4) to be positioned in the ear. Optionally, a mushroom shaped tip (22) is connected with an end of the structure (4) and carries a plurality of sensors (8). Inflation of the balloon (6) expands the tip (22) radially to position the sensors (8) proximate to vascular tissue within the ear canal. Once suitably positioned, the one or more sensors (8) sense physiological signals from the vascular tissue and bone structure.
Abstract: Fluid flow devices include a small plate (2), at least one flow channel (20) formed into this small plate, at least one storage channel (221-226) extending from this connection channel, and a set of valves (V1-V6), each of which is suitable for allowing or stopping the flow of fluid in a corresponding storage channel.

Abstract: A rectifier building block has four electrodes: source, drain, gate and probe. The main current flows between the source and drain electrodes. The gate voltage controls the conductivity of a narrow channel under a MOS gate and can switch the RBB between OFF and ON states. Used in pairs, the RBB can be configured as a three terminal half-bridge rectifier which exhibits better than ideal diode performance, similar to synchronous rectifiers but without the need for control circuits. N-type and P-type pairs can be configured as a full bridge rectifier. Other combinations are possible to create a variety of devices.
Abstract: A radio frequency coil assembly includes an annular conductor (20, 22, 120) configured to support a sinusoidal electrical current distribution at a magnetic resonance frequency, and a radio frequency shield (30, 32, 34, 52, 60, 61, 130) shielding the annular conductor in at least one direction, the radio frequency shield including at least one of (i) a cylindrical shield portion (30, 60, 61, 130) surrounding a perimeter of the annular conductor, and (ii) a planar shield portion (32, 34, 52) arranged generally parallel with the annular conductor. In a magnetic resonance scanner embodiment, a magnet (10) generates a static magnetic field (B0), a magnetic field gradient system (14) is configured to superimpose selected magnetic field gradients on the static magnetic field, and said radio frequency coil assembly is arranged with the annular conductor generally transverse to the static magnetic field (B0).

Abstract: A predetermined type of ambient lighting is generated in which the influence of each of a plurality of luminaries on a predetermined type of ambient lighting is determined (203) and illumination of each of the plurality of luminaries is controlled (209) to generate said predetermined type of ambient light based on the determined influence of each of the plurality o f luminaries.
Abstract: A method for assigning ranking scores to pathways in a set of pathways for classifying patients is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of comparing biomolecular datasets from different groups of patients and performing an analysis in order to assign ranking scores to pathways in a set of pathways. Furthermore, a method for using cancer pathway evaluation to support clinical decision making is disclosed. This assessment is further used for stratifying ovarian cancer patients based on chemosensitivity to platinum based drugs, the standard chemotherapy. We present the method for evaluation and ranking of the most relevant pathways responsible for platinum sensitivity. Clinical decision support software system should be able to then visualize this information for a clinician, contextualize it within a patient data set and help make a final decision on the potential responsiveness.
