  • Patent number: 8428699
Abstract: An apparatus measures properties of an object such as a heart in a patient (2). The apparatus includes an antenna (3, 4) for sending and/or receiving electromagnetic waves to and/or from the object (2) for measuring a property of the object. The antenna (3, 4) includes an electrically conductive element for functioning as an electrode for measuring a further property of the object. The electromagnetic waves are reflected by the object, causing a Doppler shift. The apparatus uses this shift to provide mechanical information about the object and uses the electrode to provide electrical information about the object, such as an electrocardiogram.

  • Patent number: 8429072
Abstract: Methods and systems of the invention provide a variety of techniques for processing microtransactions. In accordance with the invention, the method starts with a customer initiating a purchase through interaction with a merchant. The purchase is associated with purchase information, which includes the particulars of the purchase, such as the purchase price. In the purchase, the customer uses a transaction account, obtained from a payment enabler. The purchase is classified as a microtransaction, if the purchase price is below a predetermined monetary amount. Thereafter, the purchase information is forwarded for processing based on the classifying, i.e., either as a regular transaction or as a microtransaction. Then, upon receipt of the purchase information by an appropriate recipient, such as an interchange entity or an alternate interchange entity, the purchase information is processed to effect the microtransaction, if so classified, between the customer and the merchant.

  • Patent number: 8427079
Abstract: A lighting device (1) comprises a plurality of LEDs (11-14) producing light (21-24) of mutually different colors. The LEDs are driven in switching cycles (63) with a duty cycle controlled supply current of constant magnitude. In each switching cycle, each LED is first switched ON (61) and then switched OFF (62). In a measuring mode, during one switching cycle (63B), all ON phases of all LEDs are briefly interrupted, except for one LED (11), so that a light sensor (70) measures the light from this one LED. This measurement can be used to adapt the duty cycle of this one LED. In the next switching cycle (63C), the interruption of the ON phases is compensated by extending the ON phases of all LEDs except said one LED, the extension having a duration equal to the duration (?D) of the interruption.

  • Patent number: 8428636
Abstract: A radio communication system comprises a secondary station (110) having a plurality of communication channels (226a,226b,226c) with a plurality of primary stations (100a,100b,100c). Separate closed loop power control is performed for each of the communication channels (226a,226b, 226c). This enables the optimum primary station for transmission of data to the secondary station (110) to be selected. Parameters derived from operation of each power control loop enable optimum setting of channel parameters for each primary station (100a,100b,100c). Such an arrangement is particularly suitable for a high speed downlink data service, where the fast selection of the optimum primary station and/or channel parameters improves link robustness and system throughput.

  • Patent number: 8427527
Abstract: An autostereoscopic display 101, which provides a depth perception by providing a viewer's left and right eyes (104a, 104b) with two slightly different perspectives of an image to be displayed, is provided for ultrasound guided interventions with a surgical instrument (103). The surgeon watches displayed ultrasound data (102), rendered for at least two views. The plane at which those views (L, R) intersect is adjusted to correspond exactly with the tracked three-dimensional position within a displayed scene of the surgical instrument (103), which position can be extracted from the three-dimensional ultrasound data by means of, for example, 3D object recognition. Thus, the point of reconstruction of the image presented to the viewer can be dynamically adjusted to correspond with the position of the surgical instrument on which the surgeon's eyes are presumed to be focused.

  • Patent number: 8425863
Abstract: A micro fluidic device includes a valve/pump-unit with reduced dead volume having a substrate. The lower surface of the substrate includes two micro channels spaced apart by a valve area of the substrate that separates the two micro channels. A flexible membrane is arranged on the lower surface of the substrate facing an actuating element located in a through going cut-out of a cover element. Movement of the actuating element towards and away from the valve area of the substrate causes a pump and/or valve action of the flexible membrane area, respectively, to cause or stop a directed fluid flow between the two micro channels through a channel formed between the valve area of the substrate and the flexible membrane.

  • Patent number: 8424716
Abstract: The present invention concerns apparatus for efficiently dispensing and applying a wristband identification bracelet that is meant for attachment around an extremity of an animal or person. The apparatus is provided with a supply of identity bands that are adapted to become a bracelet by having a first portion of the band affixed to a second portion to form a continuous loop around the extremity. The extremity is positioned within a receptacle in the apparatus, permitting the identification band to be wrapped closely around the extremity by the band fixing mechanism of the apparatus. The identification band is fixed to itself to form a bracelet, so as to prevent its removal from the extremity without damaging the integrity of the bracelet.

  • Patent number: 8428058
Abstract: An efficient approach for cascading out-of-box services is disclosed. The inventive system has a packet router, with out-of-box interfaces, and out-of-box servers, the latter being connected to the interfaces and implementing the out-of-box services. The interfaces and the serves are configured in a virtual local area network (VLAN), as identified by a VLAN identifier (ID), which performs a specific number of the services and in a specific order on a stream of packets. The packet router, in a single action, routes packets with the VLAN ID to a particular VLAN in order to subject those packets to the number and order of services then associated with that VLAN ID.

  • Patent number: 8428689
Abstract: A therapeutic system includes a therapy module to direct a therapeutic action, e.g. focused ultrasound or RF energy to a target. An imaging module, such as a magnetic resonance examination system, generates image information of a therapy region that includes the target. By way of a motion analysis module, a motion vector field is derived from the image information of the therapy region. A control module controls the therapy module based on the motion vector field. For example, based on t the motion vector field, an accurate temperature distribution is derived from magnetic resonance signals and the motion vector field. Also magnetic resonance elastography data may be employed to improve the accuracy of the temperature distribution.

  • Patent number: 8428220
Abstract: A method for dynamically visualizing coronary information and an apparatus adapted to implement such method is described. In a preferred embodiment of the method, first dynamic cardiac data is acquired during a first cardiac stage and second dynamic cardiac data is acquired during a second cardiac stage. Then, the two data sets are visualized continuously the in a superimposed presentation, wherein the first cardiac data and the second cardiac data corresponding to a same phase within the cardiac cycle are visualized simultaneously. In this way for example information about the vessel geometry may be immediately linked with information about the muscle irrigation or perfusion. Furthermore, this useful information may be displayed in a high-contrasted and low-noise presentation.
