Abstract: Proposed are concepts for predicting the likelihood of a brain injury of a subject resulting from a fall event experienced by the subject. Such concepts may therefore be useful for determining a need for further medical assessment or treatment of a fall by the subject. According to an exemplary concept, data from one or more sensors is used to determine information about a fall of a subject. Such information is then used in conjunction with a prediction algorithm to derive a probability of a brain injury.

Abstract: In accordance with at least some aspects of the present disclosure, an illustrative method for authenticating a user is disclosed. A plurality of biometric modalities are displayed for authenticating the user. A selection of one or more of the biometric authentication modalities may be received. User authentication data may be received for each of the one or more selected authentication modalities. The user authentication data may be compared with previously-determined biometric data. An authentication score may be determined based on the comparison of the user authentication data with the previously-determined biometric data. A determination may be made whether to authenticate the user based on the authentication score.

Abstract: This disclosure describes a system that determines hemodynamic parameters of a patient. The system may include a transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) probe including an ultrasound transducer comprising a matrix array of piezoelectric elements, the transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) probe configured to obtain a plurality of clinically relevant views of the patient's heart from a single position. The system may include one or more processors, operatively connected to the TEE probe. The one or more processors are configured by machine-readable instructions to control the TEE probe by electronically steering an ultrasound beam provided by the ultrasound transducer to obtain the plurality of clinically relevant views of the patient's heart; receive the plurality of clinically relevant views of the patient's heart provided by the TEE probe; and determine one or more physiological parameters of the patient's heart based on the received plurality of clinically relevant views of the patient's heart.

Abstract: An electric shaver having a shaving unit and a sensor with a first sensor unit fixed to a main body and a second sensor unit fixed to a sensor unit carrier, for indicating a distance between the sensor units. The shaving unit and the sensor unit carrier are suspended to the main body for displacement along a z-axis between a rest position and a pushed-in position in response to a pushing force exerted onto a shaving face of the shaver. The first and second sensor units are located in positions offset from the z-axis over a distance (d) in an x-direction. Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media utilized for authenticating and authorizing payments. One method includes receiving one or more biometrics and authenticating the one or more biometrics of the customer based on accessing a customer authentication database and comparing the one or more biometrics to one or more stored authentication templates. The method further includes receiving context information gathered by the POS device, wherein the context information includes a plurality of context elements that describe a context of the transaction and selecting a customer payment profile from a plurality of customer payment profiles identified by the one or more biometrics of the customer. The method further includes authorizing the payment for the transaction from a payment account associated with the selected customer payment profile and sending, to the POS device, a notification that the customer has been authenticated and that the payment for the transaction has been authorized.

Abstract: There is a process for preparing in situ an aqueous gel ink with variable color having the following steps: (i) preparing a gel-based matrix of aqueous ink comprising a reducing agent, (ii) adding a solution of metallic salts, (iii) adding iron powder to obtain an aqueous gel ink with variable color, wherein the steps (ii) and (iii) can be interchanged. There also is an aqueous gel ink with variable color obtained according to the process of the disclosure, having a reducing agent, metallic nanoparticles and iron powder. There further is a writing instrument having an aqueous gel ink with variable color according to the disclosure.

An air box comprising one or more sidewalls and a mount wall is configured to support the air filter within an engine bay. The air box is configured to be mounted, or fastened, onto the engine. An intake tube is coupled with the air filter and configured to conduct the airstream to the air intake of the engine. The intake tube is configured to be coupled with an air temperature sensor or a mass air sensor of the engine. An adapter is configured to couple the intake tube with the air intake.

The system includes an interventional medical device (214) insertable into the region of interest, and a sensor (215) attached to a portion of the interventional device, the sensor being configured to convert an ultrasonic wave from an ultrasound imaging probe (211) to a corresponding electrical radio frequency (RF) signal. The corresponding RF signal is received by a wireless receiver (209) outside the region of interest, enabling determination of a location of the sensor within the region of interest.

Abstract: A boarding pass can be employed as a financial instrument to make payments and other financial transactions. A passenger name record, a standardized computer reservation system protocol, can be associated with one or more financial accounts. When a point of sale device scans the boarding pass, either on a mobile device, or a traditional paper boarding pass, the passenger name record can be used to find a travel itinerary associated with the customer. By matching the travel itinerary to the location of the point of sale device, and the time, payments can be authorized and then initiated using financial account information associated with the passenger name record. Likewise, a mismatch can provide a basis for denying authorization and subsequent payment.

Abstract: A guidance apparatus is provided for use with a portable imaging apparatus and an image display device. The guidance apparatus includes a sleeve portion structured for receiving an imaging apparatus and a coupling mechanism. The coupling mechanism has a rotating portion and first and second connecting portions structured for coupling the image display device to the imaging apparatus. During use, the coupling mechanism facilitates orienting the image display device relative to the imaging apparatus to provide a direct line of sight of an area imaged by the imaging apparatus. The coupling mechanism may be adjustable for facilitating rotation of the image display device about a longitudinal axis of the imaging apparatus. Also, the coupling mechanism can be structured to allow the combination of the coupling mechanism, the image display device, and the imaging apparatus to be held in a single hand of a user during performance of a medical procedure.

Abstract: A method and a system for validating a proposed change to a configuration of an application are provided. The method includes: receiving a user request for changing a setting of one or more parameters of the configuration of the application; retrieving, from a memory, a set of rules that relate to permissible settings for the parameters; comparing the request to the retrieved rules; determining whether the request is acceptable based on a result of the comparison; and when the request is determined as being acceptable, validating the request. The rules may be applicable across an entirety of an organization or specific to a particular line of business. The parameters may relate to report formats or digital dashboards that are generated by executing the application.

Abstract: Methods and systems of exchanging data using payment cards with universal reference numbers are disclosed. A merchant computing system includes a merchant input/output assembly receiving a universal reference number from a customer at a point of sale. A merchant database retrievably stores a plurality of universal reference numbers and customer information associated with each of the plurality of universal reference numbers. A transaction circuit receives the universal reference number from the merchant input/output assembly, retrieves customer information associated with the universal reference number, and provides an output relating to a transaction based on the customer information.

Abstract: Systems and methods for an electric drive unit are provided. A transmission system in an electric drive unit includes first, second, and third input shafts rotationally coupled to first, second, and third electric machines, respectively, wherein the first and third electric machines are arranged on a first side of the transmission and the second electric machine is arranged on a second opposing side of the transmission. The transmission system further includes an idler shaft that connects the first, second, and third electric machines and couples to a sun gear of a planetary gear set. The planetary gear set is arranged between a first and second clutch wherein the first clutch couples to a carrier and the second clutch couples to a ring gear. An output shaft is spaced away from the planetary gear set via gear and includes two flanges to couple the transmission to outputs.
