Abstract: A woven fabric for reinforcing a resilient material, such as a tire casing, wherein the warp of the fabric consists of substantially unstranded wires held together in spaced groups by the weft of the fabric with at least some of the wires being formed with a set so as to have undulations along their length to thereby improve the adhesion between the wires and resilient material as well as to improve the tensile and compression stress characteristics of the wires. The amplitude of the undulations may be perpendicular to the direction in which the groups are spaced from each other. The undulations may also be periodic with the phase of such undulations being either the same or different between adjacent groups.
Abstract: A method of making a metal reinforcing strip suitable for use in reinforcing a coating applied onto a pipe comprising providing a strip of welded wire mesh having longitudinal and transverse wires, and passing the strip between a pair of rollers which deform the longitudinal wires to an extent which increases progressively across the strip.

Abstract: Winding apparatus for winding wire, thread or the like onto a flanged spool including a thread guide for traversing the wire or thread back and forth lengthwise of the spool during winding and means for detecting surface irregularities of the wound wire or thread in two zones each adjacent to a respective one of the spool flanges. The means for detecting surface irregularities comprises a buffer-accumulator located upstream of the spool, a linear speed sensor located between the spool and the buffer accumulator, and gating means for inhibiting the output from the sensor except when the thread guide is in a position to guide the thread or wire into one of said zones.
Abstract: A method of packing a wire netting coil by laying over each end of the coil a protective end cover having a plurality of tongues hingedly connected thereto, introducing the tongues into the coil in sufficient independent frictional engagement with the coil to keep the end covers in place, and subsequently tightly enclosing the coil with the thusly affixed end covers into a packing sheet.
Abstract: Apparatus for use in rearing and transporting small animals comprising (1) one or more rearing cages, each of which has a floor including at least two substantially coplanar floor panels which are removable from the cage while still carrying one or more animals, (2) a structure for receiving and supporting a floor panel when the latter is first removed from the rearing cage, such structure including underneath support means for the floor panel as well as side wall members for confining animals to the floor panel, and (3) a walled and roofed cage member which can be placed over and connected to said floor panel to form a transport cage.
Abstract: An improvement in a wire winding apparatus of the type which includes a means for supporting and winding a flanged spool, a wire guide arranged to traverse the wire back and forth lengthwise of the spool in use and two end sensors which are operative to automatically reverse the direction of the operation of the guide at the end of each traverse, which improvement comprises (1) means for automatically moving each end sensor away from the other end sensor by a first predetermined distance after every actuation of the first mentioned end sensor, (2) means for detecting an accumulation of the wire adjacent either end of the spool and (3) means for automatically moving the end of the sensor associated with the flange toward the other end sensor by a second predetermined distance which is greater than the aforesaid first distance when such an accumulation is detected.
Abstract: A woven fabric for reinforcing a resilient material such as rubber or a suitable synthetic material wherein the warp of the fabric consists of individual steel filaments held together in warps by the weft of the fabric.

Abstract: A stretcher for stretching wires and similar elements for use in fences and the like which comprises a yoke to be attached to a post or similar element, the outer portions of the yoke being provided with two opposite apertures, and a rotatable stretching element disposed between the outerportions of the yoke and provided with a through cross-aperture in which a wire to be stretched can be received. The rotatable stretching element is provided with a threaded outer end having a cross-section smaller than the stretching element, thus forming a collar, and substantially equal to the cross-section of the aperture of associated outer portion of the yoke and an associated nut. By tightening the nut, the associated outer end portion of the yoke is gripped between the collar of the stretching element and the nut.
Abstract: A wire element for being mixed in a substantially hardening soft material. It consists of a substantially straight wire end, having at both extremities a bending in a form for which the hooking-in of two neighbouring elements is not possible.
Abstract: A process for producing metal wire screens having extremely narrow slot widths. The process comprises compressing along the longitudinal axes of the supporting wires a wire screen having parallel narrowly spaced screening wires supported by parallel supporting wires and wherein the average spacing of the screening wires is larger than desired. The compression effects plastic deformation of the supporting wires whereby the desired average slot width is formed.
