Abstract: A composition including protein hydrolysates derived from milk is obtained by the treatment of enzymes derived from microorganisms. A trypsin-like enzyme and a chemotrypsin-like enzyme are used. The composition is in particular intended for inducing tolerance in infants with the effect of modulating the potential occurrence of allergies later in life. The composition can also be used in sick adult patients. Preferably the composition is an infant formula, infant follow-up formula, growing-up milk or baby food or an enteral complete nutritional composition.
Abstract: Nutritional compositions having reduced amounts of calories and high amounts of protein and methods of making and using the nutritional compositions are provided. The nutritional compositions may include a processed whole food component, a high amount of protein, and a reduced amount of calories in order to provide a patient with a pH-balanced formulation that includes the benefits of food bioactives beyond essential macro- and micronutrients without providing excessive energy. Methods of administering such nutritional compositions to patients in need of improved bone, muscle, neurological, immune, and/or overall health are also provided.

Abstract: The invention aims to provide a device and a method for retrieving efficiently a capsule from a receptacle of a beverage production apparatus. In particular, the device allows retrieving a used capsule in safe conditions and without waiting time. The beverage production apparatus comprises a receptacle (1) with a cover (3) for receiving a capsule (2) containing beverage ingredient. The device comprises capsule extracting and guiding means consisting of a clamp (6) having members (6?, 6?) arranged on each lateral side of the cover (3) of the receptacle. The capsule (2) is provided with a rim (8) around its upper edge which is directed upwards when the capsule is inserted in the receptacle (1). At opening of the cover of the receptacle, the clamp (6) is activated in such a way to position its members under the rim (8) of the capsule which is lifted thanks to a spring (4) at the bottom of the capsule.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a check valve 10, an injection assembly 60, and a beverage preparation machine 100, which is integrated in the injection assembly 60. The check valve 10 of the present invention is made of a body with a first fluid outlet 21, and a plug member 30 that is movable inside the body 20. The plug member 30 has a fluid inlet 32 and a second fluid outlet 31 into a first cavity 11, wherein the fluid can exercise a pressure on a first surface 381 of the plug member 30 opposing the first fluid outlet 21. The fluid pressure can overcome the force of an elastic element 40, which biases the plug member 30 into a closed position. If the force of the elastic member 40 is overcome, the plug member 30 is moved into an open position. In the closed position a fluid path from the cavity 11 out of the first fluid outlet 21 is closed, whereas in the open position said fluid path is open.
Abstract: A nutritional composition comprising a significant amount of arachidonic acid (ARA) is described. Such nutritional composition is particularly suitable for infants below the age of 3 years, preferably between birth and 12 months of life. The composition can be used to reduce the risk of developing overweight/obesity and/or insulin resistance later in life.

Abstract: Capsule designed in particular for the preparation of a beverage in a centrifugal brewing device by feeding liquid in the capsule and rotating the capsule along a central axis to produce centrifugal forces on the liquid traversing the capsule thereby forcing the beverage out of the capsule by such centrifugal forces, wherein the capsule comprises:—a body comprising containment walls, a main cavity of central axis,—a lid connected or connectable to said body and arranged for covering said cavity;—an annular flange peripherally bordering and protruding outwards beyond the said cavity, wherein the flange is configured to ensure one passage or a plurality of passages for providing flow of the centrifuged beverage in multiple radial directions from the cavity and through the flange or above the flange as a result of the centrifugation forces exerted when the capsule is rotated along said central axis.

Abstract: The invention provides an ELISA assay for the determination of serum mast cell ?-tryptase levels using rabbit anti-tryptase as the capture antibody and alkaline phosphatase conjugated G3 as the detecting antibody. Luminescent substrate CPSD was used to enhance the assay sensitivity. Also provided are methods for aiding in the diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome by detecting the serum level of ?-tryptase, histamine and/or prostaglandin E2.
Abstract: The invention relates to modified sweet whey protein (MSWP) for promoting the establishment of healthy and normal cognitive function in young mammals. In particular, the invention relates to the use of MSWP for promoting development of the brain structures responsible for cognitive functions (e.g. cortex and its associated neural pathways) and/or to reverse retardation and/or to prevent retardation of the establishment of cognitive functions. Humans or animals and, in particular, a foetus, pre- term or term born infant, toddler or child or a young adult may benefit from the invention.
Abstract: The invention concerns synthetic nutritional compositions for infants and young children up to the age of thirty-six months, particularly infant formulae and growing-up milks. The compositions vary according to gender and the age of the infant or young child. The compositions of the present invention have been designed to ensure balanced growth and to prevent obesity in infancy and later in life.

Abstract: Flow control devices.—In a general embodiment, the present disclosure provides a cassette (30) comprising a housing having a flow restrictor (34), and a tube (36) attached to the housing and positioned adjacent the flow restrictor. The flow restrictor may be so constructed and arranged to rotate from a first position in which the flow restrictor prevents fluid flow through the tube to a second position in which fluid is able to flow through the tube when the cassette is positioned inside a pumping device. As a result, the cassette is designed to prevent free flow of fluid when an enteral feeding tube set is not installed in a pumping device.

Abstract: The present invention provides assays for detecting and measuring the presence or level of neutralizing and non-neutralizing autoantibodies to biologics such as anti-TNF? drug therapeutics in a sample. The present invention is useful for monitoring the formation of neutralizing and/or non-neutralizing anti-drug antibodies over time while a subject is on biologic therapy. The present invention is also useful for predicting and/or determining the cross-reactivity of neutralizing anti-drug antibodies in a subject's sample with alternative biologic therapies. As such, the present invention provides information for guiding treatment decisions for those subjects receiving therapy with a biologic agent and improves the accuracy of optimizing therapy, reducing toxicity, and/or monitoring the efficacy of therapeutic treatment to biologic therapy.
