Abstract: Systems and methods for forwarding dispatch communications are provided. A dispatch communication forwarding request is sent to a dispatch processor or a dispatch communication forwarding server. A record associated with the dispatch station initiating the dispatch communication forwarding request is updated in a home location register to indicate that dispatch communications intended for the dispatch station should be forwarded to another dispatch station. The communication forwarding can be absolute such that all communications intended for one dispatch station are forwarded to another dispatch station. Alternatively, the communication forwarding can be conditional such that all dispatch communications meeting certain criteria intended for one dispatch station are forwarded to another dispatch station.
Abstract: A wireless communications system including a network application server; and a base station to receive an expedited request packet from a subscriber unit by way of a radio frequency interface, attempt to reserve channel resources for a traffic channel to communicate with the subscriber unit, and notify the network application server of whether the channel resources have been reserved. The base station may notify the network application server by marking the expedited request packet received from the subscriber unit, and sending the marked expedited request packet to the network application server.

Abstract: A system and method for frequency planning is provided. In systems with consecutive frequency channels, half-channel frequency reuse can be provided between channels employed by different cells. Specifically, two channels in two proximately located cells can overlap within the frequency spectrum by one-half of the frequency of a channel. Half-channel overlap can increase frequency reuse, and in turn, system capacity.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for floor control in a multi-media dispatch network is disclosed. The method includes receiving a floor request message related to a first media type at a dispatch network controller from a first user and receiving a floor grant request message related to a second media type at the dispatch network controller from the first user. The apparatus includes a dispatch network controller where the dispatch network controller receives a floor request message related to a first media type from a first user and receives a floor grant request message related to a second media type from the first user.
Abstract: Systems and methods of providing data from a first network to a second network are provided. When a first packet is received from the first network, it is determined whether the first packet includes state information. When the packet includes state information, a packet is transmitted to the first network in response to receipt of a first packet. The first packet can then be transmitted to the second network. The method can also involve removing the state information from the first packet prior to transmission to the second network and conversion of a transport layer of the first packet from a first protocol to a second protocol prior to transmission to the second network.
Abstract: Systems and methods for handoff of a mobile node between first and second points of attachment are provided. A communication between a first and second mobile node is optimized and conducted independent of a home agent. During the handoff process the communications directed to the mobile node performing the handoff are routed to the mobile node's home agent. Once the handoff process is complete the communication is again optimized and conducted independent of home agents.
Abstract: A method and computer-readable medium for controlling roaming restrictions for dispatch calling of a mobile station in a network are provided. A home location register receives a dispatch application processor identifier and a mobile station identifier. The domain in which the dispatch application processor is located may be determined by the home location register, based upon the dispatch application processor identifier. A determination can be made whether the mobile station is authorized to operate in the domain, based upon the mobile station identifier. If the mobile station is not authorized to operate in the domain, the mobile station is prevented from operating in the domain. On the other hand, if the mobile station is authorized to operate in the domain, the operation of the mobile station may be allowed, but restricted to certain predetermined calling features.
Abstract: Push-to-talk private call pre-emption may be applied in an application-to-person context or on a person-to-person context. A PTT subscriber may send a PTT server a pre-emption request indicating a desire to interrupt the application voice stream or another PTT subscriber, respectively. In an application-to-person context, the PTT server may revoke the floor from the application server and grant the floor to the requesting device. In a person-to-person context, the PTT server may send the other PTT subscriber a floor release request. Once the subscriber with the PTT floor releases it in response to the floor release request, the PTT server will be able to send an open floor signal back to the requesting subscriber.
Abstract: A system, method and computer-readable medium for sharing bandwidth resources among a plurality of antennas in a network of base transceiver stations are provided. According to the method, a bandwidth allocation of each of a plurality of antennas is determined, and a bandwidth demand on each of the plurality of antennas is monitored. If the bandwidth demand of one or more of the antennas exceeds a first threshold, the bandwidth allocation of those antennas is increased, based upon the bandwidth demand. If the bandwidth demand of another one or more of the antennas drops below a second threshold, the bandwidth allocation of those antennas is decreased. Accordingly, the bandwidth resources available to the network of antennas may be dynamically allocated, based upon the bandwidth demand in the network.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for floor control in a multi-media push-to-talk network is disclosed. A device for communication in the multi-media network includes a floor request sensor. The floor request sensor includes a first sensor and a second sensor. The method includes sending a floor grant request message for a first media type in a multi-media dispatch communication session and a floor request message for a second media type in the multi-media dispatch communication session by a floor request sensor of a communications device to a dispatch network controller.
Abstract: Systems and methods for provisioning and synchronizing subscriber data are provided. Subscriber data is provisioned in two home location registers, each located in a different wireless network. When the subscriber registers in one of the wireless networks, the subscriber data is obtained from the local home location register. One of the two home location registers is designated as the owning home location register. Updates of subscriber data are performed with the owning home location register, which then updates the other home location register.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for communicating using a plurality of identities is disclosed. The method includes communicating on a mobile communications device using a first identity having an associated first content and communicating using a second identity having an associated second content. The apparatus includes a processor for communicating with a communications network using the first identity having the associated first content and using the second identity having the associated second content.

Abstract: Systems and methods for facilitating communications between a monitoring and monitored device using a mobile station are provided. The mobile station includes a wide area network interface for communicating with a monitoring device via a wide area network. The mobile station also includes a short-range wireless network interface for communicating over a short-range wireless communication link with the monitored device. Using these communication links the mobile station can forward data between the monitoring and monitored devices.
Abstract: A system and method for dispatch communications are provided. A dispatch station can use one or more alias addresses for communicating with other dispatch stations. The dispatch station can register with a dispatch network for only one of the alias addresses or a number of the alias addresses.
Abstract: Methods and systems for merging active dispatch talk groups, which are supported on different call handlers, are provided. The merged talk group can be supported by a single dispatch call handler, or the different dispatch call handlers can support the merged talk group in a master/slave relationship. An identification of the merged talk group is stored for a predetermined amount of time, thereby allowing the merged talk group to be reactivated.
Abstract: A system and method of transmitting and receiving RF service signals between a base transceiver station (BTS) of a wireless communication system and subscriber units within a structure. In the forward link, the system demodulates the RF service signal from a BTS to recover a digital service signal; conditions the digital service signal for transmission via the powerline of a structure; and modulates an RF carrier with the digital service signal to generate the RF service signal for wireless transmission to subscriber units within the structure. In the reverse link, the system demodulates the RF service signal from subscriber unit(s) to generate a digital service signal; conditions the digital service signal for transmission via the powerline; and modulates an RF carrier with the digital service signal to generate the RF service signal for transmission to the BTS. Another embodiment eliminates the modulation of an RF carrier with the digital service signal to generate an RF service and vice-versa at the BTS.
