  • Patent number: 7831266
Abstract: A method and system for routing a push-to-talk (PTT) call in a communications network is disclosed. A PTT call request is received at a regional call processor of the communications network, where the PTT call request includes an address for a called party with a first user part and a second domain part. The regional call processor consults a table to determine whether the second domain part is associated with the communications network. The regional call processor routes the PTT call request to a central call processor of the communications network if the second domain part is associated with the communications network and routes the PTT call request to a gateway if the second domain part is not associated with the communications network.

  • Patent number: 7822437
Abstract: A system and method for providing an user the ability to roam onto a peer Integrated Digital Enhanced Network (iDEN) Network. An iGW supports the passing of Dispatch registration information back to the users home network. The iGW will also support and assist in setting up Dispatch Calls between the two iDEN Networks, and vice versa. Exemplary embodiments of the present invention also support roaming from another technology that supports Dispatch Services, where if a iDEN subscriber with a dual mode phone (i.e., iDEN & GSM), was to roam onto another carrier with a different technology but with Dispatch capabilities, the iDEN subscriber is able to register on the roaming carrier's network. The iGW is capable of receiving the registration update from the roaming network and updating the iDEN Network with the location of the iDEN Subscriber.

  • Patent number: 7813737
Abstract: An apparatus and method for mapping a newly assigned Universal Fleet Member Identifier (UFMI) to a previously assigned UFMI is disclosed. In an embodiment, an Integrated Digital Enhanced Network (iDEN) routing request message is received from a dispatch application processor (DAP) associated with a calling party at a serving home location register (HLR) of a called party. The routing request message includes a previously assigned UFMI of the called party. A newly assigned UFMI of the called party is obtained by the HLR by consulting a subscriber table stored in the HLR. An iDEN routing response message is transmitted to the DAP by the HLR, where the routing response message includes the newly assigned UFMI associated with the called party.

  • Patent number: 7797132
Abstract: A method and system for providing repeatable GPS performance testing of a communication device are provided. Navigation data is complied over a drive route. The navigation data is used as an input to a GPS simulator to duplicate in a laboratory setting the GPS signals present at the GPS receiver during a travel along the drive route. Performance data of a baseline unit can be obtained for benchmarking the performance of a communication device being tested. A device under test can also be exposed to simulated GPS signals and to both simulated GPS signals and other radio frequency signals, such as telephone network signals present along the drive route.

  • Patent number: 7796547
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for notifying mobile stations in an inactive state of the presence of uplink or downlink channel configuration, broadcast system updates, traffic channel allocations and paging messages are provided. The notification can be provided in an information element in the same channel as the frame, or in a different channel. The information element identifies a subsequent frame which includes broadcast or configuration changes. The notifications for traffic channel allocations can include a first field, which identifies whether there are any traffic channel allocations for any sleep mode mobile station, and a second field for identifying the particular sleep mode mobile stations which are to receive traffic channel allocations. Notifications for paging messages can include a field, which identifies whether there are any paging messages for any idle mode mobile stations, and use second field to identify the particular idle mode mobile stations, which are to receive the paging messages.

  • Patent number: 7787885
Abstract: A system and method for expanding traffic channels in a wireless communications system, such as CDMA2000, includes a method for generating a forward link signal including encoding each of a first set of channels with a mutually corresponding channel code, such as a Walsh code, selected from a predetermined set of channel codes, and encoding each of a second set of channels with the same mutually corresponding channel codes. A scramble code is applied to the encoded second set of traffic channels, which is combined with the encoded first set of traffic channels to form an extended forward link signal. Each channel code corresponds to two forward link channels, which are selectively decoded using the scramble code.

  • Patent number: 7769404
Abstract: Systems and methods for supporting dispatch communications with guaranteed talk permit and forced audio are provided. The systems and methods can include servers and communication units that operate according to the Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) standard. A user of a communication unit can select a guaranteed talk permit with forced audio answer mode, and provide an indication of the answer mode to a PoC server. When the PoC server does not support a guaranteed talk permit with forced audio answer mode, this indication can be for a manual answer mode. Alternatively, the indication can be for a guaranteed talk permit with forced audio answer mode. In this case, a terminating communication unit is contacted during the dispatch communication setup even when the communication setup request is set to manual answer override.

  • Patent number: 7756524
Abstract: A system and method for allocating vocoder resources for interconnect calls includes consideration of what percentage of interconnect calls have been assigned to a particular vocoder type. In an embodiment a vocoder type is assigned to a given interconnect call based on a comparison of the available capacity of the telecommunications network to one or more threshold values, and a determination on whether or not the percentage of interconnect calls assigned to a given vocoder type has exceeded a threshold percentage. In certain embodiments, the vocoder is adapted to operate in one of at least two possible types, where the first type is characterized by a higher voice quality, but a lower network capacity, than the second type.

  • Patent number: 7751543
Abstract: Systems and methods for button-independent dispatch communications are provided. A dispatch station monitors a microphone input to determine whether it provides voice information. When the input provides voice information, the dispatch station then determines whether the floor of the dispatch communication is open. When the floor is open, the dispatch station seizes the floor and transmits the voice information. When the floor is not open, the dispatch station can store the voice information and transmit it once the dispatch station is able to seize the floor.
