Abstract: A reaction solution comprising a mixture of tricyclopentadiene, a norbornene monomer with at least 3 rings in its backbone, a 5-alkenyl-2-norbornene pot life adjusting agent along with a molybdenum type catalyst system gives prolonged pot life without extending time to exotherm (e.g., smoking time). By utilizing this reaction solution it is possible to bulk polymerize reinforced or unreinforced articles in a mold via ring-opening polymerization. Articles so obtained have good outward appearance and excellent physical properties.
Abstract: According to the present invention there is provided a panel-reinforcing sheet material having a multi-layered structure consisting of a first layer, a second layer and, optionally, a third layer, the first layer consisting of a foamable composition comprising, as essential components, (A) epoxy resin, (B) a rubber elastomer or a halogen-free powder thermoplastic resin of 150 .mu.m or less in average particle diameter, (C) a plasticizer, (D) a high-temperature-decomposition type blowing agent and (E) a heat-activaiton type hardener for epoxy resin, the component (A)/component (B) weight ratio being 0.2-5, the second layer consisting of a cloth, and the third layer consisting of a thin metal film of 50 .mu.m or less in thickness. This sheet material has good adhesion to oily surfaces and, when subjected to blowing and hardening, gives a sheet of good heat resistance, and can therefore be suitably used for the reinforcement of vehicle outer panel before electrodeposition.
Abstract: A rubber composition for tire treads which comprises 100 parts by weight of a rubber component comprising 10 to 100 parts by weight of a styrene-butadiene copolymer rubber produced by a solution polymerization and 90 to 0 parts by weight of at least one of other diene rubbers having a glass transition temperature (Tg) of -60.degree. C. at lowest, and at least 70 parts by weight of a carbon black mixed in the rubber component, the styrene-butadiene copolymer rubber having a styrene content of 45 to 65% by weight, a content of butadiene derived vinyl groups of 20 to 70 parts by weight and a content of a styrene sequence consisting of not less than 8 bonded styrene monomer units of at largest 10% by weight of the above styrene content.

Abstract: The closing plug and the closing plug device are used for closing a body defect percutaneously. During the insertion into the defect, the closing plug can be deformed to a smaller size to facilitate the insertion operation and recovered to its original larger shape after it is fitted to the defect, to thereby close the defect. The closing plug device facilitates the insertion of the closing plug into the defect. The closing plug has a flange or an enlarged portion at least at one end thereof and is made of a shape memory polymer having a shape recovery temperature in the range of 20.degree. C. to 70.degree. C. The closing plug device comprises a closing plug, a catheter and a guide wire or a pushing wire to aid in insertion of the closing plug to a defect.
Abstract: There are disclosed a polycyclic norbornene or its derivative ring-opening hydrogenated copolymer which contains 90-10% by mole of a repeating unit represented by the following formula [I] or the alkly-substituted derivative, at least a repeating unit represented by the following formula [II] or the alkly-substituted derivative thereof and, as required, a repeating unit represented by the following formula [III], the alkyl-substituted derivative thereof or the alkylidene-substituted derivative thereof, has an intrinsic viscosity [.eta.] of 0.01-20 dl/g as determined in toluene at 25 .degree. C., and in which at least 50% of the (C C) linkages constituting the main chain are single bonds, and the production of said hydrogenation product ##STR1## wherein represents either a single bond or a double bond.
Abstract: A polycarbonate resin composition comprising (A) 100 parts by weight of a polycarbonate resin, and (B) 1 to 80 parts by weight of an acrylic ester graft copolymer. The acrylic ester graft copolymer is produced by grafting on 100 parts by weight of an acrylic ester copolymer produced by copolymerizing (i) 100 parts by weight of at least one acrylic ester monomer having 1 to 16 carbon atoms and (ii) 0.1 to 5 parts by weight of a polyfunctional allyl ester monomer and/or a polyfunctional methallyl ester monomer having a benzene ring as a skeleton; a copolymer of (iii) 15 to 100 parts by weight of (a) one or two vinyl monomers selected from the group consisting of a methacrylic ester, an aromatic monovinyl compound and a vinyl cyanide compound, and (b) an acrylic ester in an amount of 0 to 20% by weight to the vinyl monomer and (iv) 0.1 to 5 parts by weight of a polyfunctional allyl ester monomer and/or a polyfunctional methallylester monomer having a benzene ring as a skeleton.
Abstract: The present invention provides a thermoplastic composition excellent in heat resistance and water resistance which includes a thermoplastic saturated norbornene polymer which has a number-average molecular weight (Mn) of 50,000-500,000 and a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of 100,000-2,000,000 which are measured by high performance liquid chromatography, and a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) of 2.2 or more, and a volatile content of at most 0.3% by weight higher. The composition is suitable for optical materials, electroconductive composite materials and optical recording media.
Abstract: A hydraulic composition comprises a hydraulic component and an organic hydrogel, and optionally aggregate, a reinforcing material and other additives and has a slump value, determined by the testing method of JIS A1101, of not more than about 1 cm in a concrete formulation and a flow value, determined by the testing method of JIS R5201, of not more than about 120 mm in a mortar or paste formulation.
Abstract: A process for producing a fiber-rubber composite comprising:a polyester fiber treated with (1) an adhesive composition (AR) consisting mainly of a latex (A) of a vinylpyridine-conjugated diene type copolymer containing a vinylpyridine unit in an amount of not less than 20% by weight but not more than 70% by weight and a resorcinol-formaldehyde resin and then with (2) an adhesive composition (BR) consisting mainly of a latex (B) of a nitrile group-containing highly saturated copolymer rubber having an iodine value of 120 or less obtained by emulsion polymerization or by emulsion polymerization followed by hydrogenation in the emulsion state and a resorcinol-formaldehyde resin, anda nitrile group-containing highly saturated copolymer rubber having an iodine value of 20 or less, which process comprises bonding said polyester filber and said nitrile group-containing highly saturated copolymer rubber having an iodine value of 20 or less, by vulcanizing by a peroxide vulcanizing system.
Abstract: Product comprising a ring-opened base polymer of at least one norbornene-type monomer and a thin polymer film on at least a portion of said base polymer of a vinylidene chloride polymer or an unsaturated nitrile polymer whereby the product has improved weatherability and reduced odor. The method of making the product is characterized by applying the polymer film from an organic solution of a vinylidene chloride resin or an unsaturated nitrile resin and then drying the coating to remove the organic solvent.
