  • Patent number: 7050439
Abstract: A method for performing discontinuous transmission in an asynchronous transfer mode is described, wherein a downlink transmission of an ATM cell is performed each time a predetermined number of signal frames indicating a speechless period has been supplied, and wherein an uplink transmission of an ATM cell is only performed when a signal frame indicating a useful information has been supplied. In the downlink transmission, an idle frame can be generated at the receiving end, when no ATM cell is received. In the uplink transmission, a signal frame indicating a useless information can be generated, when no ATM cell is received. Thereby, only those signal frames required at the receiving end are transmitted. Moreover, known transmission functions and elements of a synchronous transmission system can be used at the respective ends of transmission.

  • Patent number: 7031701
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method for controlling delays in a cellular telecommunications network. The delay control method according to the invention is based on a hierarchical structure of delay controlling entities, which preferably communicate only with entities directly above or below them in the hierarchy. In the downlink direction, an entity receiving data, such as a base station or a splitting unit, sends a timing report to the entity sending the data if the data is received too early or too late, whereafter the sending entity may adjust the sending time of data. The same reporting and adjusting process may be repeated through all levels of the control hierarchy, resulting in a collective control of delays from the top of the hierarchy, for example from a RNC, to the bottom, for example to a base station.

  • Patent number: 7027814
Abstract: A method for managing multiple, independent, simultaneous calls between a mobile communications network and a subscriber terminal. For each subscriber terminal there is a first upper limit which is related to the capacity of its radio interface. Calls are limited to a number which does not result in exceeding the first upper limit. There is also, for the number of simultaneous calls, at least one second upper limit which is not lower than zero. The actual number of simultaneous calls between the network and the subscriber terminal is monitored. A new call to/from the subscriber terminal is allowed only if the actual number of simultaneous calls is less than the at least one second upper limit. Preferably, there is a separate second upper limit for each subscriber and for each of several call types, such as voice, data and fax calls.

  • Patent number: 7024203
Abstract: According to the invention, better requests resulting in the load being under a first predetermined limit are admitted. If a bearer request would result in the load being over the first predetermined limit, the admission control entity tries to make room for the bearer request, i.e. release resources without degrading the quality of service (QoS) provided for the existing bearers. The admission control entity may perform this by adjusting power control parameters, handover control parameters, or both. If the admission control entity is able to make enough room for the new bearer or bearers, the request is admitted.

  • Patent number: 7016397
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of processing multipath-propagated components of a signal in a communications system. In the method, a signal transmitted on the radio channel of the communications system is received in a RAKE receiver and an impulse response of the radio channel is formed. In the method, one or more taps having the highest signal energy in the impulse response are located and matched to a short matched filter. A weighting value for the impulse response is calculated on the basis of the one or more taps in the matched filter and a deviation between the weighting value and the center point of the matched filter is compared with a threshold value set for the deviation. The matched filter is moved toward the deviation when the deviation exceeds the threshold value set for the deviation.

  • Patent number: 6985471
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for transmitting data from a radio network subsystem over a radio link to user equipment in a mobile telephone system, a radio network subsystem, and user equipment. The radio network subsystem transmits a dedicated physical channel to the user equipment. The dedicated physical channel comprises a dedicated physical control channel and a dedicated physical data channel. The dedicated physical channel is formed by frames to be transmitted to the radio link. During transmission, the radio network subsystem spreads each channel with a spreading code, the length of which spreading code, i.e. spreading factor, determines the data transmission rate.

  • Patent number: 6985446
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a network node for providing a packet-switched network user with a service via the intelligent network. In the packet network, a session is established for routing functionality of packets originating from and terminating at the user when the user registers to the network. To implement the services according to the intelligent network principles, a control record (SR) for the session is added to the packet network node(s) which control record recognises the events which trigger the connection to the intelligent network. Alternatively, the control record can be formed when the user activates the Packet Data Protocol PDP context.

  • Patent number: 6985470
Abstract: The invention relates to data transmission in a telecommunication system. An information unit is asynchronously transmitted over a transmission link, such as a radio interface, in timing units called radio frames. Information units reside in successive radio frames, each radio frame includes at least one whole information unit and part of an information unit split in successive radio frames. Thus, the frames contain asynchronous information units. One or more bits in a radio frame is reserved for phase indication, based on which a receiver synchronizes to the asynchronous information units. Phase indication defines a sequence of N successive radio frames and indicates for each frame which of the N possible frames in the sequences said frame is. The receiving unit indicates phasing between the frames and the asynchronous information units in the frames by synchronizing to said phase indication.
