  • Patent number: 7947751
Abstract: Resin beads having an average particle size of from 0.001 mm to 10 mm and containing a continuous phase and a particulate dispersed phase are described. The continuous phase includes elastomeric polymers; the dispersed phase includes homopolymers and/or copolymers containing repeat units resulting from the polymerization of one or more aryl polymerizable monomers. The unexpanded polymer resin beads can be prepared by dispersing an organic phase containing elastomeric polymers and one or more monomers, into droplets and polymerizing the monomers in the organic droplets in a low shear flow pattern. The beads can be impregnated with blowing agents, expanded and can be used to make molded articles. Resin beads having a continuous phase comprising a nitrile rubber, and a dispersed phase comprising one or more homopolymers and/or copolymers containing repeat units resulting form the polymerization of one or more aryl polymerizable show prolonged retention of blowing agents in unexpanded form.

Abstract: The present application discloses angiogenic peptides that cause intracellular calcium release in target cells and thereby induce proliferation, migration, and capillary-like tube formation in primary cultured endothelial cells. The angiogenic peptides can be used for preventing and/or treating angiognesis-related conditions, especially wound healing, treating foot and leg ulcers in a subject, etc. In addition, the angiogenic peptides can be used for cosmetics a constituent of cosmetics for aged skin, for examples, anti-wrinkle and skin whitening.

  • Publication number: 20110109004
Abstract: Expandable or pre-expanded thermoplastic particles, e.g. polystyrene particles, used to form foam containers e.g. cups, bowls, are coated with a coating composition comprising a liquid part consisting of a) liquid polyethylene glycol with an average molecular weight of 200 to 800; and a solid part comprising components selected from the group consisting of b) polyolefin wax, e.g. polyethylene wax, c) a metal salt of higher fatty acids, e.g. zinc stearate or calcium stearate; d) polyethylene glycol with an average molecular weight of 900 to 10,000; and e) a fatty bisamide or fatty amide, e.g. ethylene bis-stearamide; and combinations of b) through e). The coating composition prevents or resists leakage of liquids and foods with oil and/or fatty components and improves the rim strength and ATF properties of foam containers.

  • Publication number: 20110100359
Abstract: Methods and systems for fractionating lignocellulosic biomass including hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin, including exploding the biomass cells to devolatilize the biomass, hydrolyzing the hemicellulose to produce a liquid component including hemicellulosic sugars and a solid component including less than 10% hemicellulose, separating the liquid and solid components, vaporizing the cellulose in the solid component, and condensing the cellulosic sugar vapors. The methods and systems may vaporize the cellulose in a continuous steam reactor at a temperature of about 400-550° C. and a pressure of about 1-3 bara. Electromagnetic and/or electroaccoustic treatment such as ultrasound and/or microwave treatment may be applied to the biomass immediately before or during cellulose hydrolysis.

  • Patent number: 7927184
Abstract: A method and system are presented for monitoring a process sequentially applied to a stream of substantially identical articles by a processing tool, so as to terminate the operation of the processing tool upon detecting an end-point signal corresponding to a predetermined value of a desired parameter of the article being processed. The article is processed with the processing tool. Upon completing the processing in response to the end-point signal generated by an end-point detector continuously operating during the processing of the article, integrated monitoring is applied to the processed article to measure the value of the desired parameter. The measured value of the desired parameter is analyzed to determine a correction value thereof to be used for adjusting the end-point signal corresponding to the predetermined value of the desired parameter for terminating the processing of the next article in the stream.

  • Patent number: 7927466
Abstract: The present invention relates to the deposition in a magnetron reactor (1) equipped with a magnetron cathode (MC) of at least one material on a substrate (11a), according to which process said material is vaporized by magnetron sputtering, using a gas that is ionized in pulsed mode. To this effect and in order to favour the formation of high current pulses of short duration while avoiding the formation of electric arcs and while enabling an effective ionisation of the sputtered vapour, a preionization of the said gas prior to the application of the main voltage pulse on the magnetron cathode (MC) is carried out in order to generate current pulses (CP) whose decay time (Td), after cut-off of the main voltage pulse (VP) is shorter than 5 ?s.

  • Publication number: 20110082672
Abstract: Dependent variables believed to contribute to a likelihood of falling are analyzed using a latent class analysis. The dependent variables are biomedical factors, which may include, for example, arthritis, high blood pressure, diabetes, foot disorders, Parkinson's Disease, stroke, eye disorder, limb disorder, or proprioceptive disorder. Data pertaining to the biomedical factors is gathered from a population of individuals at risk of falling. Covariate data, including for example age and the number of prescriptions taken, is further analyzed against latent class data. For a particular group of at risk individuals, a set of five classes produced useful results broadly corresponding to groups representing individuals who have: good health; a range of diseases; Parkinson's Disease; arthritis; and high blood pressure. A probability of falling is determined, relative to the group of individuals with good health.

  • Publication number: 20110081623
Abstract: The invention is an instrument for cleaning and/or shaping and/or widening a channel that exists in or through a solid object. The design of the instrument the superelastic and shape memory properties of the material from which it is made, allow the inner volume enclosed by the instrument, its outer contour, or both to change as a result of the forces exerted upon it while working, thereby shaping the instrument to the three-dimensional contour of the channel. A preferred embodiment of the instrument is an endodontic file for use in the cleaning, shaping, and widening stages of a root canal procedure.

  • Patent number: 7918955
Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing a flexible tubular duct includes a mandrel, and a substrate feeding assembly for feeding a strip of flexible substrate material to the mandrel. Apparatus is provided for bending the strip of substrate material to have a rounded encapsulating portion, into which is fed a stream of loose fibrous insulating material. A mechanism is further provided for delivering an elongate reinforcing element onto the strip of flexible substrate material. In operation, the rounded encapsulating portion and the reinforcing element are wound in a helical path around the mandrel so that the loose fibrous material is encapsulated as a core in the helically wound rounded encapsulating portion the reinforcing element is also encapsulated by the strip of substrate material, whereby to form a reinforced flexible tubular duct.
