Abstract: Neutrons can be detected using first information derived from a first charge induced on an input electrode of a microchannel plate and second information derived from a second charge induced on an output electrode of the microchannel plate. For example, a ratio between the first charge and the second charge is calculated, a sum of the first and second charges is calculated, and whether a neutron has been detected can be determined based on the ratio and the sum.
Abstract: A dual reactor solution process gives high density polyethylene compositions containing a first ethylene polymer and a second ethylene polymer which have a good balance of processability, toughness, and environmental stress crack resistance combined with good organoleptic properties. The polyethylene compositions are suitable for compression molding or injection molding applications and are particularly useful in the manufacture of caps and closures for bottles.
Abstract: A method and system are presented for determining a line profile in a patterned structure, aimed at controlling a process of manufacture of the structure. The patterned structure comprises a plurality of different layers, the pattern in the structure being formed by patterned regions and un-patterned regions. At least first and second measurements are carried out, each utilizing illumination of the structure with a broad wavelengths band of incident light directed on the structure at a certain angle of incidence, detection of spectral characteristics of light returned from the structure, and generation of measured data representative thereof. The measured data obtained with the first measurement is analyzed, and at least one parameter of the structure is thereby determined. Then, this determined parameter is utilized, while analyzing the measured data obtained with the second measurements enabling the determination of the profile of the structure.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for treating materials containing a mixture of plastic materials and metal materials, said method including:—crushing the material to be treated; pyrolysis of the crushed material; a first magnetic separation performed on the pyrolysed material providing, on the one hand, a ferrous metal fraction and, on the other hand, non-ferrous residue;—a second magnetic separation performed on the non-ferrous residue providing, on the one hand, a non-ferrous metal fraction and, on the other hand, non-magnetic residue. The invention also relates to a facility for implementing said method.

Abstract: SPECT pixel detectors could be mounted onto moving subjects, such as small rats, to allow live scanning and/or imaging of moving subjects in their natural environment. Solid state monolithic pixel detectors are used for compactness and portability. The pixel detector is designed to be directly read out by integrated circuits and could be flip-chip mounted on the integrated circuit. The detector systems can also wirelessly transmit image data to save space and for ease of portability.
Abstract: A lightweight cementitious composition containing from 22 to 90 volume percent of a cement composition and from 10 to 78 volume percent of particles having an average particle diameter of from 0.2 mm to 8 mm, a bulk density of from 0.03 g/cc to 0.64 g/cc, an aspect ratio of from 1 to 3, where after the lightweight cementitious composition is set it has a compressive strength of at least 1700 psi as tested according to ASTM C39. The cementitious composition can be used to make concrete masonry units, construction panels, road beds and other articles and can be included as a layer on wall panels and floor panels and can be used in insulated concrete forms. Aspects of the lightweight cementitious composition can be used to make lightweight structural units.

Abstract: A rubber modified polystyrene composition that includes the reaction product formed by polymerizing a monomer mixture containing at least 75 weight percent of one or more monovinylaromatic monomers in the presence of rubber particles to form a dispersion of rubber particles in a vinyl aromatic polymer. The dispersed rubber particles have an average particle diameter of from about 6 to about 10 microns. The composition has a gel content of from about 28% to about 36% by weigh. The composition has a swell index of less than 13 and contains no more than 2 wt. % of plasticizers. The present composition can be used as a refrigerator liner material. The liner material can be down gauged while maintaining desirable performance characteristics.
Abstract: An armor plate includes at least four layers configured to generate a compression wave that is dissipated in a fracture player. The armor plate includes a deformable layer of a material having an elongation before failure of 20% or more; a transparent ceramic layer adjacent the deformable layer; a transparent fracture layer adjacent the ceramic layer; and a transparent spall liner backing the fracture layer.

Abstract: The present invention provides peroxidic fluoropolyether and a fluorin-containing dispersion obtained from polymerization of fluorin-containing monomers in the presence of peroxidic fluoropolyether as a surfactant. The peroxidic fluoropolyether can be used as surfactant for producing aqueous dispersion of fluorin-containing monomer in place of PFOA or the salts thereof. Thus the amount of PFOA or the salts thereof is reduced and the natural environment is protected. In addition, applying peroxidic fluoropolyether as surfactant and combining it with adjuvants, such as initiator, can induce the reaction moderate and can be beneficial to the polymerization control, thus reducing the amount of initiator or shortening the reaction time.

Abstract: A device and a method for high-speed linear polarization imaging of a scene are disclosed. The device comprises a polarization modulator for modulating the polarization of light emitted from the scene in order to obtain at least three linear polarization states of the light. The polarization modulator comprises a polarizer, a first polarization rotation block comprising a fixed quarter-wave plate and a first liquid crystal operating as a quarter-wave plate, and a second polarization rotation block comprising a second liquid crystal operating as a half-wave plate. Each of the first and second liquid crystals are switchable between two states, thereby providing the at least three polarization states to the polarization modulator. The device further comprises a sensor adapted to capture image frames of the light from the scene at each polarization state of the polarization modulator.
Abstract: A new P-N-P ligand in which each phosphorus atom is bonded to two ortho-fluorine substituted phenyl groups is useful in ethylene oligomerizations. In combination with i) a source of chromium and ii) an activator such as methalumoxane; the ligand of this invention may be used to prepare an oligomer product that contains a mixture of hexenes and octenes. The hexenes and octenes produced with this ligand contain very low levels of internal olefins when produced under preferred reaction conditions.
