Abstract: A process for electrolytically producing an aqueous solution of chlorine dioxide in an electrolytic cell having an anode compartment, a cathode compartment, and at least one ion exchange compartment between the anode compartment and the cathode compartment, the process comprising feeding an aqueous solution of an alkali metal chlorite to the ion exchange compartment, electrolyzing an anolyte in the anode compartment to generate hydrogen ions, passing the hydrogen ions from the anode compartment through a cation exchange membrane into the ion exchange compartment to displace alkali metal ions and produce an aqueous solution of chlorine dioxide, and passing alkali metal ions from the ion exchange compartment into the cathode compartment.
Abstract: An elongated, generally vertically extending reactor vessel for the production of hypochlorous acid by the mixing and reaction of a liquid alkali metal hydroxide and a gaseous halogen is provided with solids discharge handling apparatus connected to the bottom to remove the solid by-product. The discharge handling apparatus uses the solids to effect a seal to prevent the intrusion of outside air into the reactor and the escape of halogen and product gas to the outside atmosphere.

Abstract: A sabot is provided which is composed of a plurality of sabot segments which engage and form a shell surrounding a bullet of improved configuration. The inner surface of each sabot segment matches and is complimentary to the adjacent outer surface portions of the bullet body. The bullet body has a pair of axially aligned conical parts adjacent to and spaced apart from each other, each conical part increasing in diameter as the conical part extends away from the other conical part. Between the conical parts, the bullet has an extended central portion serving to separate and interconnect the conical parts.
Abstract: Spray cast alloys having reduced porosity and increased ductility are provided as well as a process for the manufacture of the alloys. An effective amount of a reactive metal which reacts with the spray casting atmosphere but not with the desired alloy is dissolved into the alloy prior to spray casting. Preferred reactive metals readily form a nitride which is finely dispersed throughout the spray cast alloy.

Abstract: A metal pin grid array package and a process for the assembly of the package is provided. The package includes a metal or metal alloy base component having an ordered array of holes. Terminal pins are electrically interconnected to a desired circuit and extend through the ordered array of holes. A dielectric polymer sealant bonds a cover component to both the circuit and to the base component. During package assembly, the polymer sealant flows into the holes comprising the ordered array of holes electrically isolating the terminal pins from the base component.
Abstract: A full metal jacket hollow point bullet is disclosed which has the jacket extending fully within the hollow open front end of the bullet. A plurality of radial slits through the jacket within the hollow front end extend from the axis to the mouth of the hollow front end. These slits form prongs therebetween which project outward upon upset of the bullet in soft tissue.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for preparing polyurethane/polyurea or polyurea elastomers by spray processing or reaction injection molding a reaction mixture comprising an A-side and a B-side, wherein said A-side comprises a polyisocyanate or an isocyanato-terminated polyurethane prepolymer and wherein said B-side comprises a polyol or polyamine plus a chain extender, in order to form a polyurethane/polyurea or polyurea elastomer, said polyol having an equivalent of between about 1,000 and about 20,000, a preferred molecular weight of between about 5,000 and about 30,000 and an end group unsaturation level of no greater than 0.
Abstract: Described herein are photopolymerizable compositions comprising at least one polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated compound, and an initiating combination of an organic soluble xanthene dye compound and an organic activator compound. These compositions are useful as radiation-curable coatings, photocurable films, and photoactive films.

Abstract: A hydrated calcium hypochlorite agglomerated particle is provided that is produced in a turbine agglomerator and has a plurality of connecting links of recrystallized material bridging the small particles forming the agglomerate which has therein a plurlaity of pores created by the substantial evaporation of the layer of surface liquid. The surface tension and adhesion forces of the layer of surface liquid at least partially holds the agglomerated particle together prior to drying.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for removing double metal cyanide complex catalyst residue(s) from polyol(s) which comprises after polyol formation the steps of: (a) contacting the catalyst residue-containing polyol with an effective amount of an oxidant to cause said residue(s) to form insoluble residues that are insoluble in the polyol, and (b) separating the insoluble residues from the polyol. In another aspect, the present invention relates to the oxidant-free polyol produced by the above process.
Abstract: Described herein is a process for separating an acid impurity from a solution containing acid and a nitro substituted aromatic compound by contacting the solution with at least one molten nitrate salt.

Abstract: A technique for improving the tarnish and oxidation resistance of copper and copper based alloy materials is disclosed. Copper or a copper alloy is immersed in an aqueous solution containing sodium hydroxide, zinc ions and chromium (VI) ions. While the compositional ranges may vary, the concentration of either zinc ions or chromium (VI) ions, or both, is less than 1.0 gm/1. A chromium-zinc coating is electrolytically applied.
