    Abstract: A phase stabilized ammonium nitrate mixed crystal structure is produced by the addition of potassium fluoride. Thus the undesirable abrupt expansion and contraction of ammonium nitrate in the temperature range of use in rocket motor propellants and explosives (-55.degree. C. to .lambda..degree. C.) is eliminated. The mixture is made by the addition of between about 3% to 5% and preferably about 3.5% by weight potassium fluoride to the ammonium nitrate by a nonhazardous aqueous method.

    Abstract: A metal liner for a shaped charge device having a ductile metal matrix and a discrete second phase is provided. The allow composition is selected so the second phase is molten when the liner is accelerated following detonation. The molten phase reduces the tensile strength of the matrix so that the liner slug is pulverized on striking a well casing. The slug does not penetrate the hole perforated in the well casing by the liner jet and oil flow into the well bore is not impeded. The liner is formed by directly casting the desired alloy to the desired shape.

    Abstract: A long rod penetrator projectile comprises an elongated main penetrator body, a stabilizing fin assembly attached to the rear of the main body, and a perforated canister carried within the fin assembly. A pyrotechnic material such as pyronol is contained within the canister. The pyronol ignites during impact. The burning pyrotechnic material spews forth through the perforations in the canister to provide improved after armor effects.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a method of fabricating a thermoplastic elastomer which comprises the steps of: (a) fabricating a polyol having a molecular weight of between about 2,000 and about 20,000 and having a level of end group unsaturation of no greater than 0.04 milliequivalents per gram of polyol, said polyol being fabricated in the presence of a double metal cyanide catalyst, (b) reacting said polyol with a diisocyanate to produce an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer, and (c) reacting said isocyanate-terminated prepolymer with a difunctional isocyanato-reactive chain extender in a mold or in an extruder in order to produce a soft elastomer characterized by a Shore A hardness of between about 10 and about 70. Also claimed is the elastomer produced by the above method utilizing a one-shot technique.

    Abstract: An arcjet thruster comprises a cathode body and anode body tandemly arranged and separated by an insulative propellant injection ring. The cathode body has a cathode cavity therein having a convergent and a divergent portion forming a throat therebetween. The anode body has a divergent cavity therein for producing thrust. The divergent cavity has an upstream portion and a downstream portion. The divergent portion of the cathode and the upstream portion of the anode cavity form a constrictor. A power supply connected between the anode and the cathode bodies is used to produce an arc between the anode and cathode that passes through the constrictor. Propellant is injected in a vortex flow radially into the constrictor so that it divides. A portion of the flow is directed upstream through the throat into the convergent portion of the cathode cavity thus also pushing the cathode arc attachment point into the convergent portion to cause diffuse attachment thereof.

The alloys are melted and atomized into droplets which are spray cast into a coherent deposit. The spray cast alloys exhibit good electrical conductivity and a high yield strength. They are particularly suited for electrical spring contacts.
