The display apparatus is configured to identify a first output frequency of a sync signal that varies based on the variable refresh rate of the image, output the sync signal to the backlight driver in a second output frequency that is a higher frequency than the first output frequency, based on predetermined information, and drive the backlight unit corresponding to the variable refresh rate of the image, based on receiving the sync signal in the second output frequency.
