Abstract: A method of producing a hydrosol which comprises reacting a Group II water-soluble metal salt with an aluminum chlorohydrate-organic complex to produce a hydrosol and incorporating into said hydrosol a viscosity inhibitor selected from the group consisting of water soluble ether alcohols, ethers, alcohols and mono-protic acid salts of triethanol amine.
Abstract: The apparatus includes a plurality of small rollers disposed in an arcuate, upwardly concave arrangement for rotatably supporting a composite two-batt roll, a large rotating roller for winding up one of the batts while the other is pulled intermittently from the composite roll for use, and a stationary bar engaging the one batt being rewound to prevent the rotating large roller from pulling the one batt from the composite roll independently of the pulling of the other batt.
Abstract: The bushing temperature measurement device is a microprocessor based sensor which determines the temperature across a multi-segment electrical resistance heated glass fiber producing bushing. The temperature change is determined by calculating the change in resistance of each segment of the bushing by sensing the voltage drop across that segment and dividing by the current flowing in that segment. All measurements of voltage and current are taken simultaneously and averaged over several cycles. The microprocessor, through appropriate output circuitry, alerts other process controls to eliminate any change in temperature.
Abstract: A process for making glass fibers is provided comprising supplying a stream of molten glass to a rotating rotor; discharging said glass through orifices in said rotor as a plurality of primary streams; and attenuating said primary streams into fibers, said spinner being fabricated from a superalloy by a process comprising electropolishing said rotor sufficient to substantially eliminate the "break-in" period otherwise associated with such rotors.
Abstract: A process for producing ferroborons is disclosed. The process consists of reacting a boron compound such as calcined colemanite with a metal such as aluminum in the presence of iron. The solid state reaction followed by subsequent grinding and sintering steps optimizes boron recovery.
Abstract: A method of producing concentrates of colemanite and probertite from mixed low grade ore which involves desliming at different particle sizes for colemanite and probertite recovery.

Abstract: A method of enhancing the creep properties of thermal mechanical processed creep resistant platinum-based alloys by heating the alloy, which is dispersion-strengthened with yttria, to a temperature not less than about 2800.degree. F. for a period of not less than about 6 hours and cooling the alloy in air.
Abstract: A glass size composition comprising a trimellitic anhydride anhydride-containing unsaturated polyester imparts to glass fibers superior reinforcing characteristics when used to reinforce sheet molding compounds.
Abstract: The inner side of an exterior wall of an existing building is insulated by installing floor-to-ceiling panels along the wall, the panels having glass windows where the wall has windows.
Abstract: A hollow reinforcing rod insertable into a bored hole is a mine roof and assembled just before insertion therein from a plurality of coiled reinforcing elements of pultruded glass filament reinforced thermoset resin, the rod being cut from the coils after insertion in the hole.
Abstract: The disclosure embraces a method of and apparatus for applying a liquid material aftertreatment to texturized or bulked strand or yarn and particularly strand or yarn of glass fibers or filaments. The method and means of application of the liquid material aftertreatment to the texturized or bulked strand or yarn involves advancing the texturized strand or yarn over an applicator, applicator body or member wherein the applicator body is provided with an opening or orifice through which the liquid material is delivered onto the texturized or bulked strand or yarn and the liquid treated texturized or bulked strand or yarn wound into a package on a rotating body. One of said bodies is reciprocated with respect to the other for traversing the liquid treated texturized strand or yarn lengthwise of the package during winding of the package.

Abstract: The disclosure embraces a method of and apparatus for mechanically stripping linear material such as strands or groups of glass filaments or fibers from plastic forming tubes wherein the packages are defective, incomplete, or "break-out" packages. A defective, incomplete or "break-out" package is disposed at a stripping station at which a tube deforming or collapsing member is engaged with a forming tube package to collapse the package so that the strand on the collapsed forming tube is loose or is a loose hank. The collapsed or deformed forming tube is withdrawn from the stripping station and a stripper member is engaged with the loose strand or hank of strand which is stripped from the forming tube as the forming tube is moved away from the stripping station.
