Abstract: An assemblage of electrode blocks peripherally supported on the bottom wall of an electric glass-melting furnace, having apertures for positioning electrodes therethrough and having horizontal grooves cut between adjacent vertical sides with a key positioned in the groove to secure the blocks, and on another of the vertical sides, having a ledge parallel and located between the top and bottom of the electrode blocks, such that a plurality of paving blocks can be positioned to retain the electrode blocks against the bottom wall of the furnace.
Abstract: H-splines and electrical raceways useful in an insulation system for the inner side of an exterior wall are substantially identical to those in a partition wall constructed to extend from said exterior wall. Insulation panels in the insulation system and in the partition wall may also be substantially identical.
Abstract: A method for impregnating a bundle of sized glass fibers with a composition comprising a polytetrafluoroethylene resin, a film-forming acrylic resin, a thickening agent and a polyhydrolyzable organosilane having nonhydrolyzable amine functionality is described. The impregnated bundles are especially suited for at least the warp of fabrics for filtering entrained particulates from gases such as flue gases from the combustion of hydrocarbon fuels such as coal.
Abstract: A non-aqueous hot melt coating composition consisting of a thermoplastic rubber block copolymer, a polyethylene wax and a low molecular weight resin compatible with the end styrenic block of the rubber block copolymer is useful as a hot melt size.

Abstract: Method for producing discrete bundles of filaments includes applying a non-aqueous, hot melt coating material to continuous filaments and gathering the coated continuous filaments into a bundle. The coating material is solidified on the continuous filament bundle so as to establish a first cross-sectional shape and the bundle is then severed into discrete segments whereby the bundle segments are deformed so as to exhibit a second cross-sectional shape at the severed regions. The bundle segments are then heated sufficiently to soften the coating material to permit the bundle segments to substantially return to the first cross-sectional shape. The apparatus of the invention includes a primary applicator for applying a production coating to the filaments and an interim applicator for applying a start-up coating to the filaments.
Abstract: Apparatus for severing a moving, heavy strand of coated glass filaments is comprised of a conically shaped cutting head having a circular cutting edge that cooperates with a circular die into which the cutting head is moved upon activation.

Abstract: A pressure-sensitive adhesive is disclosed which is prepared by hot melt blending paving grade asphalt, a depolymerized virgin rubber, a terpene resin, and a vulcanizable, non-depolymerized styrene-butadiene copolymer. These adhesives are especially useful in forming membranes by coating one side of an asphaltic based coated reinforcement with these adhesives. They are useful for highway repair and maintenance purposes and for waterproofing and show good adhesion to cementitious, for example asphaltic concrete or Portland cement concrete, substrates.

Abstract: A glass melting furnace which uses Joule effect heating between electrodes, has a parallel attachment of electrodes to a single power source. The electrodes are arranged in rows of four electrodes across the width of the furnace. Multiple rows of electrodes spaced along the length of the furnace are used. The electrodes within a row are connected in a parallel format such that the current flow within a row can only be between two electrodes which are adjacent to each other.
