Abstract: In a method for detaching a web threading tail from a moving surface in a fiber web machine, the web threading tail (12) is detached from a moving surface (23) by means of air that flows from a blow-off blow channel (19) included in a blade holder (14). A trailing blow (26) is directed to the web threading tail (12) using air that flows from a trailing blow channel (17) included in the blade holder (14). The blade holder (14) includes a flow surface (32), and the trailing blow (26) is blown to the same direction with or in a small angle relative to the flow surface (32). The invention also relates to a corresponding blade holder and a doctor apparatus for detaching a web threading tail from a moving surface in a fiber web machine.

Abstract: A novel method of forming water in oil microcapsules is disclosed. According to the invention microcapsules are obtained by steps comprising dispersing an oil soluble amine modified polyfunctional polyvinyl monomer and an oil soluble bi- or polyfunctional vinyl monomer along with a thermal or UV free radical initiator (optionally included in one or both of the oil or water phases) and an organic acid into an internal phase oil; heating or UV exposing for a time (and temperature) sufficient to oligomerize the amine modified polyfunctional polyvinyl monomer and oil soluble bi- or polyfunctional vinyl monomer forming a pre-polymer. Thereafter the process involves adding to the oil phase oil a water phase comprising a dispersion in water of an anionic emulsifier (and optionally initiator), and adding an emulsifying agent. Emulsifying the water phase into the oil phase (W/O) is controlled through the quantity of water employed.

  • Patent number: 7828922
Abstract: Methods of making fibrous webs having a visible transparency variation image and products constructed from such methods are generally disclosed. The variation in transparency creates a transparency variation image in the fibrous substrate in the form of a false watermark and/or a false shadow mark. In the method disclosed, a transfer sheet having a transfer coating is utilized. A portion of the transfer coating is removed from the transfer sheet by heat transfer with a printable sheet having a toner image applied thereon. The transfer coating of the transfer sheet includes a powdered thermoplastic polymer and a film-forming binder. The film-forming binder can have a melting point that is less than that of the powdered thermoplastic polymer. In the final step of the method, the remaining transfer coating is transferred to a fibrous substrate to form the transparency variation image in the fibrous substrate.

Abstract: Record material imageable with a laser beam. The material is a substrate such as paper or polyolefin film having provided on at least one surface thereof a coating containing a solvent-soluble or disperse-type dye suitable for coloring plastics or polymers. Typical solvent-soluble and disperse-type dye include monoazo dyes, diazo dyes, anthraquinone dyes, coumarin dyes, quinoline dyes, xanthene dyes, and naphthalimide dyes. The record material does not show visible dye specks in the coating layer on the substrate because the dye has a very small average particle size—less than 50 microns. No more than 1% of the dye particles are larger than 100 microns. Also, method for imaging a substrate using heat energy by applying heat energy to the described record material to bring about a temperature in the coating greater than the melting temperature of the dye, causing color to become visible in the record material.

  • Patent number: 7824522
Abstract: An apparatus for the repair or maintenance of a papermaking headbox has two devices, one of which is used on the tending side and one of which is used on the drive side of the headbox. Each device has three parts, a lower bracket mounted to the headbox frame, an upper bracket mounted to the headbox slice beam, and a carriage which moves on a track formed on the lower bracket. The carriage is adjustably mounted to the upper bracket, and supports the slice beam which is attached to the upper bracket, and allows the slice beam to be precisely raised and lowered with respect to the headbox, so as to disconnect the slice beam from the headbox. Once separated, the slice beam is moved on the track, displacing it in the machine direction from the head box.

Abstract: The invention comprises a method and a system in a paper machine, and also a software product, allowing one or more tools to be generated for indicating the state of the paper production process in terms of energy consumption to the operating staff of the paper machine. This allows continual monitoring of the state of the paper production process and/or its energy efficiency combined with efforts to develop the manners of running the paper machine and its dryer section in a more favourable direction. In one embodiment of the invention, the dry solids content DSC of the press section can be calculated by means of the evaporation amount of the dryer section, the production of finished paper and the final paper moisture as follows: DSC=mpap,d/(mpap,d+mH2O), in which mpap,d is the dry mass flow of the paper web to the dryer section and mH2O is the water mass flow to the dryer section. mH2O is obtained by summing up the mass flow of the water discharged from the dryer section and the evaporated water mass flow.
