  • Patent number: 6418639
Abstract: The invention concerns a method and a device in the dryer section of a paper/board machine. In the dryer section a normal single-wire draw is applied at least partly, in which method the web (W) is passed through the dryer group on support of a drying wire (H). The drying wire (H) presses the web (W) on the drying cylinders (Kn, Kn+1 . . . ) against the heated cylinder faces, and on the reversing cylinders or rolls (Sn, Sn+1 . . . ) between the drying cylinders (10) the web (W) remains at the side of the outside curve. There is one integrated device, through which a support suction and/or blowing is produced in order to improve the runability of the web (W) and to keep the web (W) in contact with the face of the wire, and through which same device, additionally, impingement blowing is produced in order to dry the web (W) and/or to control its tendency of curling.

Abstract: This invention pertains to security paper and methods of making such security paper. The invention comprises a light-colored base paper having a non-protection area of a first thickness, and a protection area of a second thickness on at least one major surface of the base paper wherein the first thickness is greater than the second thickness. The base paper comprises colorant whereby the protection area exhibits a translucence when viewed using transmitted light, and exhibits the colorant as a darker color indication, relative to the non-protection area, when viewed using reflected light. Transmission of light through a combination of paper fibers and the colorant of the invention, both being disposed at the protection area, is discernibly different from transmission of light through the non-protection areas of the base paper, when viewed with a human eye.

  • Publication number: 20020084009
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for making a roll shell of a roll used in the manufacture or further processing of paper and/or board. In the method, a shell blank of the roll shell is made of steel and the shell blank is subjected to heat treatments comprising heating for hardening, quenching and tempering treatments. In accordance with the invention, in heat treatment, the quenching is carried out such that hardening takes place in a directed manner from the outer surface of the roll shell inwards. The quenching is carried out such that neutral or compression stress is produced in the surface of the roll and that the formation of tensile stress in the surface of the roll is prevented by means of quenching.

  • Publication number: 20020074099
Abstract: In a papermaking process, filtering of white water containing fiber material is performed by feeding the white water to a filter on a surface of which a layer of auxiliary pulp has been formed, such that the white water is filtered through the layer of auxiliary pulp and fiber material in the white water remains in the layer of auxiliary pulp. The mixture of auxiliary pulp and fiber material is removed from the filter and is fed to a fractionating screen. The screen separates the mixture into a short-fibered pulp fraction that can be returned to the papermaking process, and a long-fibered pulp fraction that is returned to the filter where it is used as auxiliary pulp to form a layer on the filter surface.

  • Patent number: 6393728
Abstract: A fiber containing pulp, such as chemical pulp, mechanical pulp, thermomechanical pulp, TMP, de-inked water, or fiber containing sludge, is dried in an effective and efficient manner. The wet pulp is first dewatered mechanically, such as by using a drum or screw press. Then dewatered pulp is passed to a dryer. The dryer has first and second apertured cylindrical surfaces defining a gap between them, and drying gas is blown through one of the apertured surfaces, then through a pulp layer moving in the drying gap between the cylindrical surfaces, and then through the apertures in the other cylindrical surface, to evaporate water from the pulp and dry it to a dry matter content of over 80%, preferably about 85-90%.
