  • Patent number: 4645080
Abstract: A method and apparatus for grading generally spherical articles, and specifically fruit such a oranges, which do not orient along a predetermined axis when rotated on a roller conveyor comprises a pair of side scan cameras disposed on opposite sides of the fruit. An overhead camera provides plural data signals representative of the surface quality of the fruit. The side scan cameras provide data indicative of the surface quality of side portions of the fruit. A processor and processing algorithm computes a surface quality indication based upon the data from the overhead camera and modifies the surface quality indication depending upon the data provided by the side scan cameras.

  • Patent number: 4638207
Abstract: Piezoelectric polymer film, when conformably adhered to inner or outer curved surfaces of an inflated balloon, for example, acts as a speaker when the metallized coatings of the film are suitably connected to the output of an audio device. The film may be in the form of an helical strip, or individual strips elastically serially connected, or may itself form the inflatable material. Amplifying and impedance matching means may be interposed between the audio output and film coatings.

  • Patent number: 4633362
Abstract: Circuitry is provided for use with solenoid driven apparatus, such as a metering pump, for example, which is typically powered by direct current from a full wave rectifier. The circuit compensates for variations in the supply voltage by adjusting solenoid "on-time" in substantially inverse relationship to the supply voltage by powering an RC charging network of an integrated circuit directly from the secondary of a transformer supplying power to the solenoid.

  • Patent number: 4633122
Abstract: Electrodes with leads deposited on different surfaces of a piezoelectric polymeric film or films are easily and quickly electrically connected by forming a continuous channel through the film and lead to form a pierced lead, and then applying an electrically conductive material, by any one of several known processes, onto the film over the channel to thereby form a connecting lead, the conductive material being permitted to penetrate the channel to effect a continuity of conductive material between the pierced lead and connecting lead.

  • Patent number: 4633123
Abstract: An embodiment of a non-contact electrical keyboard switch which completely resists EMI and eliminates cross-talk comprises a pair of electrically insulating substrates having rows and columns of openings therethrough. A poled piezoelectric PVDF film is adhered to each substrate over the openings. The films have silk-screened ground electrodes deposited on one surface and signal generating key electrodes deposited on the other surface in registration with the openings. Leads connecting individual rows of key electrodes on one film and individual columns of key electrodes on other film are disposed orthogonally. An insulating sheet separates the films which have their key electrode surfaces facing each other. Leads are connected to ground and/or suitable electrical connectors to provide the keyboard switch. Processes are disclosed for fabricating embodiments of the keyboard switch.

  • Patent number: 4632254
Abstract: A method of operating an article sorting machine automatically adjusts weight cutoff values defining size grades to compensate for variations in weight distribution of the articles. The method comprises the steps of monitoring the actual average weight of the articles classified into each size grade, periodically comparing the actual average weight of the articles classified into each size grade to values indicative of the desired average weight of the articles classified into each size grade, and modifying ones of the weight cutoff values if the actual average weight of the articles classified into selected ones of the size grades differs from the desired average weight of the articles to be classified into the selected ones of the size grades.

  • Patent number: 4626852
Abstract: Lantern employs clear lens protective cover around the drum lens and a clear dome over the solar panel mounted above the lens. A heavily damped gimbal supported by the lantern housing mounts the lens, lampchanger, and flasher above a bank of batteries suspended from the gimbal. The weight of the batteries aids in providing a righting moment to the gimbal when the marine buoy, atop of which the lantern is secured, is tilted or inclined for sustained periods due to current and/or wind. Interior of the lantern is readily accessible by merely pivoting upwardly an annulus supporting the lens cover, solar panel, and dome.
