Abstract: A new stable liquid suspension of water soluble polymer, and a method of preparation are provided. Such compositions comprise of at least an iso-parrafinic oil medium, one styrene/isoprene copolymer, a water soluble polymer and preferably some hydrophobic fumed silica mixed together in the appropriate quantities and conditions.
Abstract: Articles are blow-molded from a polyphenylene sulfide resin having a melt flow in a range of from about 1 to about 10 g/10 min., and preferably in a range of from about 4 to about 8 g/10 min. When filler materials such as mica are added, the upper end of the acceptable melt flow range is raised to about 15 g/10 min. By maintaining mold temperatures in a range of from about 250.degree. to about 400.degree. F., and preferably from about 275.degree. to about 325.degree. F., the polyphenylene sulfide material in the blow-molded article is provided with a semi-crystalline structure, and is dimensionally stable at temperatures of at least 500.degree. F. Filler materials are preferably provided in a range of from about 10 to about 20 weight percent.

Abstract: The invention is a process to provide more granular, higher bulk density particulate poly(arylene sulfide ketone) or poly(arylene sulfide diketone) resins having associated therewith improved handling.The process for treating a first slurry comprising a solid particulate poly(arylene sulfide ketone) or poly(arylene sulfide diketone) resin dispersed in a liquid medium comprising a polar organic compound, comprises: (a) liquifying the first solid particulate resin in the first slurry to form a first mixture comprising a liquified resin and the polar organic compound; (b) adding, to the first mixture, a sufficient amount of at least one separaton agent to produce a second mixture, and (c) reducing the temperature of the second mixture sufficiently to solidify the liquified resin to form a second slurry comprising a polar organic compound and a second solid particulate resin having a bulk density greater than the first solid particulate resin would if recovered.
Abstract: A single ply reinforced thermoplastic composite which may be annealed in a predetermined shape. At least one layer of plastic material is impregnated on a layer of reinforcing material to form a single flexible ply. The ply is formed to the predetermined shape, such as a roll, and annealed in that shape such that the ply returns to the shape when released after being extended therefrom. One preferred thermoplastic material is polyphenylene sulfide. The sheet is well adatped for applications such as aircraft window shades. A method of manufacturing such a composite sheet is also disclosed.
Abstract: Aromatic sulfide/ketone polymer is prepared from dihaloaromatic ketone, alkali metal sulfide, water and a polar organic compound. The polymerization reaction mixture comprising the aromatic sulfide/ketone polymer is subjected to a heat soak at elevated temperature then a separation agent (non-solvent) is added under controlled conditions and subsequently cooled to provide a mixture comprising particulate aromatic sulfide/ketone polymer.

Abstract: Improved method and apparatus for providing efficient cooling of a hot body using a pulse cooling system is disclosed. A flow of compressed gas is used to atomize each pulse of fluid before it enters the cooling channel of the hot body. The atomization of the fluid pulses allows each fluid pulse to be completely vaporized within the cooling channel, and, therefore, allows the hot body to be more efficiently cooled.

Abstract: A catalytic hydrogenation process for converting maleic anhydride and/or succinic anhydride to gamma-butyrolactone, a novel selective catalyst for use in such process and a method of preparing the catalyst are provided. The process comprises contacting maleic anhydride and/or succinic anhydride with hydrogen in the presence of catalysts whereby the anhydride is converted to predominantly gamma-butyrolactone. The catalyst of the invention is comprised of transition metals, their oxides and mixtures thereof on a silica gel support having a high surface area and pore volume.
Abstract: A nonwoven fabric and a process for making a nonwoven fabric consisting essentially of:(a) forming a carded web of staple fibers selected from the group consisting of polypropylene fibers, cellulose acetate fibers, nylon fibers, acrylic fibers, and combinations of two or more thereof, having a denier in the range of from about 11/2 denier to about 10 denier;(b) crosslapping said carded web to for a suitable batt;(c) needling said batt with a needle punch density of from about 500 to about 2000 needle punches/square inch to form a fabric having a first smooth fabric surface and a second fabric surface opposite to said first surface;(d) fusing said second surface in a manner which provides a light fusion of the staple fibers making up said second surface;thereby providing a nonwoven fabric weighing in the range of from about 6 ounces/square yard to about 10 ounces/square yard with a thickness of from about 65 millimeters to about 90 millimeters.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of injecting nutrients into a subterranean formation in order to achieve a desired in-situ microbial objective. Sources of individual nutrient components which are deficient in the formation are sequentially injected so that a complete nutrient medium capable of sustaining substantial microbial activity is formed in the formation upon injection of the last of said sources. Said sources are preferably injected into the formation in order of decreasing quantitative formation retainability.
Abstract: Method and apparatus are described whereby a caustic-treated hydrocarbon feed mixture having a contaminating concentration of water and sulfur compounds is treated by separating the hydrocarbon feed into a first stream and a second stream. The first stream is contacted with an adsorbent material to produce a reactor feed stream having a significant reduction in the concentration of the contaminating water and sulfur compounds. The reactor feed stream is thereafter contacted in the presence of hydrogen under suitable isomerization conditions with an isomerization catalyst to produce an isomerate product.

Abstract: A process is disclosed for preparing a polymer/starch composite. The process involves forming the polymer in the presence of starch, an organometallic cocatalyst, and a particulate olefin polymerization catalyst. Also there is disclosed a process for improving the activity of a particulate olefin polymerization catalyst by the employment of a suitable amount of starch during the polymerization.
Abstract: For upgrading heavy slurry oil containing catalyst fines from a catalytic cracking operation, the viscosity of the slurry oil is lowered in a hydrovisbreaking process step. In a preferred embodiment an admixture of the fines containing slurry oil and a metal containing resid oil fraction, resulting from a crude distillation, is passed through the hydrovisbreaker. The hydrovisbreaker effluent is separated into higher and lower boiling fractions with the lower boiling fraction preferably passed through a cracking unit so as to covert the lower boiling fraction to lower molecular weight hydrocarbon products.
