Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for managing the automatic provision of a subscriber network identifier from a central network server to a subscribed communication device, the method comprising receiving notification at the central server relating to a change in the current location for the subscribed device, and determining from the notification whether a new subscriber network identifier is to be provisioned from the central server. The method further comprises selecting a subscriber network identifier on the basis of the current location, if the determining step has determined that a new subscriber network identifier is to be provisioned, and outputting the selected subscriber network identifier for transmission to the subscribed device. The present invention also relates to managing the automatic connection of a subscribed communication device to a network, where a preferred network and preferred subscriber network identifier may be used.

At least some of the audio parameters can be loaded into the digital signal processor during operation of the electronic device either from the auxiliary device or from a writeable mass storage.

Abstract: A telecommunications network comprises an electronic call centre, and a telecommunications device operative to transmit and receive data over the network to/from a desired location. The telecommunications device is provided with routing means operative to route data transmissions between the telecommunications device and the desired location to the electronic call centre. The electronic call centre is operative to store a copy of the data transmission.

Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for downloading an operational parameter to a mobile station. The operational parameter is stored at a server operated by an operator of a communication system in which the mobile station is operable. When the parameter is to be downloaded to the mobile station, the server instructs a SMS, or other data message, service center to generate a data message to be delivered to the mobile station, instructing the mobile station to initiate a data call connection with the server. When a data call connection is formed, the operational parameter is downloaded to the mobile station, thereafter to be used by the mobile station in subsequent communication operations in the communication system.

Abstract: An electronic radiotelephone comprising a first and second housing for housing the electronic components of the radiotelephone; the first housing having a element with an operating surface and a formation which cooperates with a complementary formation on the second housing for releasably attaching the first housing to the second housing; the element being movable between a first and a second position such that when the element is in the first position the formation and complementary formation to co-operate to allow the first housing to be coupled to the second housing and when in the second position allow the second housing to be removed from the first housing; the element being resiliently biased into the first position and allowing a user to urge the element, via the operating surface, into the second position during the removal of the second housing from the first housing, thereby allowing the second housing to be removed from the first housing without interference from the element.

The switching level is selected by an LRI function forming a portion of a transmitting station, such as a base transceiver station operable in a cellular communication system. The switching threshold level is utilized in the selection by an adaptive modulator of a modulation parameter by which data transmitted by the transmitting station is encoded or modulated.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for transmitting a digital signal consisting of symbols, which arrangement comprises a coder (308) for coding complex symbols to channel symbols in blocks having the length of a given K, means (312) for transmitting the channel symbols via several different channels and two or more antennas (314 to 318). The coder (308) is arranged to code the symbols using a code matrix, which can be expressed as a sum of 2K elements, in which each element is a product of a symbol or symbol complex conjugate to be transmitted and a N×N representation matrix of a complexified anti-commutator algebra, extended by a unit element, and in which each matrix is used at most once in the formation of the code matrix. A code matrix is also provided which is formed by matrices of a portion of the symbols placed on the diagonal of the code matrix and by matrices of a second portion of symbols along the anti-diagonal of the code matrix.

Abstract: A direct conversion receiver uses an algorithm implemented by a DSP to cancel residual DC offsets during demodulation of a GMSK modulated signal. The algorithm exploits the characteristics of GMSK modulation by determining the. modulation extremes within sampled I/Q signals and calculates the DC offset as the mean of the extremes. This offset is used to weight a declining exponential function which is subtracted from the original signal samples to achieve compensation.

Abstract: A method for decoding video data blocks using variable length codes, comprising transforming information about the spatial frequency distribution of a video data block into pixel values. Prior to said transformation, a first reference value (Xref) representing the abruptness of variations in information about spatial frequency distribution within the block is generated, after said transformation, a second reference value (?) representing the abruptness of variation in certain information between the block and at least one previously transformed video data block is generated. The first reference value (Xref) is compared to a first threshold value (TH1) and the second reference value (?) to a second threshold value (TH2); and as a response to either of the first (Xref) and second reference values (?) being greater than the first (TH1) and respectively the second threshold value (TH2), an error in the block is detected.
