  • Patent number: 7020091
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for estimating the channel phase of a communication channel upon which data is communicated. When implemented in an IS-95 cellular communication system in which 1xEV-DO technology is deployed, the channel phase estimate provided by an estimator is based upon both a pilot signal and a MAC-data signal. MAC-data bits are removed out of the MAC-data signal by a MAC bit processor, and the resultant indications are combined with indications of a pilot signal to form the channel phase estimate.

  • Patent number: 7016548
Abstract: The invention relates to a method in image processing, wherein an image in digital form is in coding phase compressed, quantized by a quantization matrix (QL, QC) and coded by a coding matrix (HL1, HK1, HL2), wherein one or more data frames are formed. In a decoding phase decoding, dequantization and decompression is carried out to the information comprised in the data frame. One or more matrices (QL, QC, HL1, HK1, HL2) used in the coding phase are left out of the data frame, wherein the corresponding matrix is stored into coding device (8) performing the decoding phase.

  • Patent number: 6999535
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, facilitates recovery of the informational content of a desired component portion of a receive signal received at a radio device. Non-desired component portions of the receive signal, such as interfering components formed as a result of adjacent-band communications. Power-level zero crossings of the non-desired component portions of the receive signal are detected. The receive signal is then sampled at the times corresponding to the zero crossings of the non-desired component portions. The resultant, sampled signal formed from such sampling excludes thereby the non-desired component portion of the receive signal.

  • Patent number: 6990180
Abstract: Tiresome entry of numerous letters of the alphabet into a hand-held device for assembling a short text message for transmission via a short message service (SMS) to a second terminal is avoided by the sending of a short voice message (SVM). The SVM is recorded in the sending terminal and sent to a SVM service center (SVMSC). The SVMSC may notify the intended recipient of the arrival of the SVM and await acceptance before sending it. The second terminal may then commence a bidirectional communication so that an instant voice message session can be established. Alternatively, the problem can be overcome by converting the spoken SVM to text in the user terminal by means of voice recognition software and sending the converted text to the recipient by means of the traditional SMS infrastructure for display as text or for playback as text converted to voice.

  • Patent number: 6915257
Abstract: This invention presents a voicing determination algorithm for classification of a speech signal segment as voiced or unvoiced. The algorithm is based on a normalized autocorrelation where the length of the window is proportional to the pitch period. The speech segment to be classified is further divided into a number of sub-segments, and the normalized autocorrelation is calculated for each sub-segment if a certain number of the normalized autocorrelation values is above a predetermined threshold, the speech segment is classified as voiced. To improve the performance of the voicing determination algorithm in unvoiced to voiced transients, the normalized autocorrelations of the last sub-segments are emphasized. The performance of the voicing decision algorithm can be enhanced by utilizing also the possible lookahead information.
