  • Patent number: 4434821
Abstract: The apparatus comprises a vat (1) in the bottom of which a certain number filling devices (22) are arranged around the axis of the vat. Each device contains a filling pipe in communication with the vat (1) and which is traversed by a vent tube which is connected at its top with a connection pipe (54) outside the vat and debouching in the upper part of an air-liquid separator (56). The lower part of this separator is connected to a vat of liquid (64) by means of a pipe (62). At its top it is connected by pipes (58) to a pipe (60) in which the pressure is lowered. Since the vat is mounted on a rotary shaft (4), the pipe (60) is connected to the pipe (58) by a rotary joint on the cover of the vat. Likewise, a pressurized pipe from the vat is mounted, by means of the same rotary joint, inside the cover of the vat.

  • Patent number: 4431163
Abstract: The cover is fixed without the use of bolts. On each side thereof, an almost closed groove is defined in one half by the peripheral portion of the cover and in the other half by the peripheral portion of the body. This groove extends only in a part of the major length of the valve and receives two round locking bars which are inserted in the groove by way of a center cavity. An outer sealing element hermetically closes the gap between the cover and the body and the two cavities. Application of the device in buried valves exposed to corrosive atmospheres.

  • Patent number: 4429445
Abstract: A cast-iron pipe having an end socket is rotated about its axis by a driven first roller applied against the outside of the socket and a driven second roller applied against the inside of the socket and pressing the latter against the first roller. The rollers can be rotated at differing speeds, and as the socket revolves they rub off or crush burrs or other irregularities on the outside and inside of the socket. A cutting tool on a pivoted lever arm is applied by motor power to an outer face of an end flange of the rotating socket to trim burrs therefrom. The second roller supported on an articulated arrangement can be swung into and out of the socket by operation of a first hydraulic jack. Another hydraulic jack arrangement presses the second roller against the inside of the socket and increases the pressure suddenly when the roller encounters a large irregularity and decreases the pressure to normal when that irregularity has passed the roller.

  • Patent number: 4411405
Abstract: A butterfly valve comprises a closure member 8 having a warped curve periphery pivotably disposed within a tubular body 1. An elastic seal and a cooperating seat are provided on the closure member and tubular body, respectively, or vice versa. At each point of a mean line of seat, a plane T tangent to the seat forms a roughly constant acute angle x of 20.degree. to 30.degree. with a tangent t to the path of the corresponding point of the closure member at the point of contact of the seal and seat.

  • Patent number: 4401478
Abstract: Concave rails 17, upon which a pipe which is to be treated by at least partial immersion can be placed, are fixed in the bottom of a furnace 1 which contains a treatment bath M. In order to guarantee that the pipe is immersed over the whole of its cross section and in order to eliminate the risk of it becoming oval, the furnace is subjected to alternating rotation about its axis XX, which compels the pipe to turn on itself by rolling on the rails 17. The handling of the pipe is achieved by arms 12 which are assembled in a pivoting manner on the external wall of the furance and controlled by an actuator 15.

  • Patent number: 4400208
Abstract: A process for producing iron, phosphorus, carbon and chromium based amorphous metal alloys of the type in which a metal alloy in the liquid phase is cooled very rapidly to obtain a vitreous structure, wherein the liquid phase is prepared from cast iron, phosphorus and chromium. This process provides a low cost amorphous alloy as compared to that of crystalline products, and one which, however, possesses improved properties. The invention also relates to the amorphous alloy obtained having the following composition by atomic percentage: Cr: 1.5 to 8; C: 8 to 16; P: 4 to 12; Si: up to 3.5; the remainder being iron and the P/C ratio being less than 1.

  • Patent number: 4386544
Abstract: A sleeve grip for a pipe is radially expandable by axial compression from a bolt-nut system. One of the elements 8 of the bolt-nut system 13 is connected to a bidirectional drive motor 23 inducing rotation in the cylindrical pipe 2 and the other element 24 to the movable disc 25 of a brake 14. Thus, by simple tightening or slackening of the brake 14 and activation of the motor 23 inducing rotation in the pipe, it may be held by the expandable sleeve grip 12 or released.

  • Patent number: 4369545
Abstract: A pinion 9 attached to a door meshes with two parallel racks 10, 11 which face each other. A piston 14, connected by rods 29 to a rotatable lever 25 of a restoration assembly 4 which has a return spring 26 and a shock absorber 27, has an L-shaped pivotable hook 21 behind which a pin 12 of one of the two racks catches at the beginning of the opening. At the end of the closing, immobile stop 17 raises hook 21 to free pin 12. The same process occurs with the other rack to open the door in the other direction. The parts assemble in such a way that the door closure is not very thick and can be mounted directly inside a section of the door.

  • Patent number: 4345952
Abstract: Tubes and method of manufacturing tubes from alloyed steel adapted to be welded for underwater hydrocarbon pipelines having high ductility at low temperatures. A low carbon alloyed steel containing less than 0.08% carbon and with at the most 0.30% silicon, also containing manganese and a metal generating special carbides such as molybdenum, niobium, vanadium and like-acting substances, is cast in a centrifugal casting mould after which the centrifugally cast tube is subjected to controlled cooling and a thermal treatment. Tubes so constructed may be used for drilling tubes, tubes for underwater pipelines and tubes for the construction of drilling platforms at sea in cold regions and applications requiring high ductility at low temperature.

  • Patent number: 4330015
Abstract: A pipe or similar tubular member of ductile cast iron having an end casing. The thin walled casing has a curved profile at its entrance divided into two sections, of which one is formed by centrifugal casting, whereas the other, of lesser curvature, is made by hot or cold forming with a simultaneous axial compression and a radial bending directed towards the axis of the pipe. The invention is useful for forming fluid tight seals in pipelines using radial compression packings.

  • Patent number: 4318637
Abstract: Two voussoirs forming part of a tunnel lining have their adjacent longitudinal sides in mutual contact, each side having a convex radial profile. The voussoirs are rigidly locked relative to each other by circumferential bolts 10 and by wedges 15 and 16 wedged into opposing recesses in the adjacent sides by radial bolts 17. In comparison to the 180.degree. relative angular position of the voussoirs which occurs when the radius of the lining is equal to that of the voussoirs, an angular position, higher or lower than 180.degree., can be used in order to obtain a lining radius larger or smaller than that of the voussoirs.

  • Patent number: 4316495
Abstract: In a centrifugal casting apparatus, the rate of flow of molten iron poured into the mold is controlled by varying the inclination of the feed channel. In particular, at the end of the casting operation, the supply of liquid to the feed channel is cut off and the upstream end of the feed channel is progressively raised. This can be controlled automatically by a cast iron level detector adjacent the pouring spout. In this manner, localized thickness defects in a series of pipes can be corrected. Furthermore, pipes of constant thickness throughout their length can be provided without the need to vary the translational speed of the feed channel or vary the rate of pivoting of the ladle of molten liquid.
