Patent number: 7994891Abstract: Improved inductive electronic apparatus and methods for manufacturing the same. In one exemplary embodiment, the apparatus comprises an inductive device module comprising N inductors and N+1 core elements. The core elements comprise ferrite core pieces that are optionally identical to one another. These core elements are stacked (e.g., in a longitudinal coaxial arrangement) such that the back of one core element associated with a first inductor provides a magnetic flux path for a second inductor. Form-less (bonded) windings are also optionally used to simplify the manufacture of the device, reduce its cost, and allow it to be made more compact (or alternatively additional functionality to be disposed therein). One variant utilizes a termination header for mating to a PCB or other assembly, while another totally avoids the use of the header by directly mating to the PCB.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2009Date of Patent: August 9, 2011Assignee: Pulse Engineering, Inc.Inventor: Timothy Craig Wedley

Patent number: 7973720Abstract: A chip component with dielectric substrate and plurality of radiating antenna elements on the surface thereof. In one embodiment, two (2) substantially symmetric elements are used, each covering an opposite head and upper surface portion of the device. The surface between the elements comprises a slot. The chip is mounted on a circuit board (e.g., PCB) whose conductor pattern is part of the antenna. No ground plane is used under the chip or its sides to a certain distance. One of the antenna elements is coupled to the feed conductor on the PCB and to the ground plane, while the parasitic element is coupled only to the ground plane. The parasitic element is fed through coupling over the slot, and both elements resonate at the operating frequency. The antenna can be tuned and matched without discrete components, is substantially omni-directional, and has low substrate losses due to simple field image.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2010Date of Patent: July 5, 2011Assignee: LKP Pulse Finland OYInventor: Juha Sorvala

Publication number: 20110153103Abstract: A system and method for predictive modeling of building energy consumption provides predicted building energy load values which are determined using kernel smoothing of historical building energy load values for a building using defined scaling factors for scaling predictor variables associated with building energy consumption. Predictor variables may include temperature, humidity, windspeed or direction, occupancy, time, day, date, and solar radiation. Scaling factor values may be defined by optimization training using historical building energy load values and measured predictor variable values for a building. Predicted and measured building energy load values are compared to determine if a preset difference threshold has been exceeded, in which case an alert signal or message is generated and transmitted to electronically and/or physically signal a user.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 23, 2009Publication date: June 23, 2011Applicant: PULSE ENERGY INC.Inventors: Matthew Brown, Christopher Barrington-Leigh, Christopher Porter

Publication number: 20110144412Abstract: An apparatus and method for micro-exercise apply piezoelectric stress to cells of a bone mass by inducing voltages in the bone mass. Application of dynamic, electromagnetic fields passing through the conductive bone mass induce currents and voltages locally in and around cells or groups of cells. The cells respond to the combination of mechanical stress and strain by building themselves up as they would if they had been subjected to the stress and strain of conventional exercise. Thus, micro-exercise at a cellular level of the bone mass can be stimulated as if the stress and strain had been applied to the entire bone structure of which the smaller cellular portions are constituent parts. In combination with casts or splints, the sources of electromagnetic flux may be embedded in the frame or solid structure, the protective padding added for comfort, or both.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 4, 2010Publication date: June 16, 2011Applicant: PULSE, LLCInventors: Gregory S. Patent number: 7916086Abstract: An antenna component suited for small-sized radio devices for forming a dielectric antenna. A small auxiliary circuit board (210) is used for the matching of the antenna, the matching being based on a conductor pattern on it. A substrate chip (220), on the surface of which the radiator is, and the auxiliary board are fastened to each other, whereby the radiator is electrically connected to said conductor pattern. The radiator, its substrate and the auxiliary board form a unitary, solid antenna component (200), which is mounted on the circuit board (PWB) of the radio device. The antenna with its feed and matching circuits can be designed and tested as a whole of its own, in which case the reproducibility is good. In the design of the circuit board of the radio device, the antenna needs to be taken into account only by reserving a space for the antenna component on the circuit board.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2007Date of Patent: March 29, 2011Assignee: Pulse Finland OyInventors: Kimmo Koskiniemi, Vesa Kuronen

Patent number: 7903035Abstract: An internal antenna especially aimed at flat radio devices. The antenna (200) comprises a planar radiator (220) with a branch (221) for forming a lower operating band for the antenna and a second branch (222) for forming an upper operating band. The branches typically form a frame-like pattern. There remains a slot (230) between the branches, opening to the outer edge of the radiator approximately in the middle of the edge running in the direction of the end of the circuit board (205) and being outside the circuit board as seen from above. The omnidirectional radiation of the antenna on its upper operating band improves as compared to the corresponding, known antennas, and its efficiency improves, because the average antenna gain increases.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2008Date of Patent: March 8, 2011Assignee: Pulse Finland OYInventors: Jyrki Mikkola, Ari Raappana, Pasi Keskitalo, Pertti Nissinen
