Abstract: Drainage devices have a self-clearing capability for reducing obstructions and a controllable flow restriction capability for controlling drainage flow, and microactuators for providing such capabilities. Such a microactuator includes a frame and an appendage anchored to the frame such that the frame supports the appendage, the frame at least partially surrounds the appendage, and the appendage is disposed in an opening or window defined by the frame. The appendage includes a platform and at least one beam that anchors the platform to the frame to enable the appendage to deflect out of a plane defined by the frame. The platform may include a ferromagnetic material that enables the appendage to deflect in response to an applied magnetic field.
Abstract: A method of inactivating harmful microorganisms of a filtration medium including pathogenic bacteria and viruses is disclosed which includes placing a predetermined quantity of a hybridized fluorescent silk on to a filtration medium, applying light for a predetermined amount of time to the placed quantity of the hybridized fluorescent silk, and passing a fluid through the medium, wherein the fluid is one of substantially air or substantially water, wherein the hybridized fluorescent silk is one of KillerRed, SuperNova, KillerOrange, Dronpa, TurboGFP, mCherry, or any combination thereof.

Abstract: A method of disinfection of a surface of a subject of harmful microorganisms including pathogenic bacteria and viruses upon visible light irradiation using a hybridized fluorescent silk is provided. The method includes placing a predetermined quantity of the hybridized fluorescent silk i) directly on to a skin surface of a subject; or ii) on a medium and then placing the medium on the skin surface of the subject. The method further includes applying light in the visible spectrum for a predetermined amount of time to the placed quantity of hybridized fluorescent silk, wherein the hybridized fluorescent silk is one of KillerRed, SuperNova, KillerOrange, Dronpa, TurboGFP, mCherry, or any combination thereof.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a novel nano-droplet composition comprising a fluorocarbon core and a polymeric shell, and the method of using and making the novel nano-droplet composition. The fluorocarbon core and the polymeric shell of the novel nano-droplet form a micelle with a size range of 10-1000 nm. The fluorocarbon core comprises at least one fluorocarbon compound with a formula of CnF2n+2 and n is 5-10. The fluorocarbon compound is substantial in liquid form. And the nano-droplet composition has a temperature profile such that the nano-droplet composition has a temperature range of 20-60° C. throughout a temperature modulation process, and has a temperature of about 37° C. prior to administration to a human, animal, biological cell, or tissue subject.

Abstract: A method for generating an energy usage profile for a software program executed in a computing device includes generating a call trace of an executed system call, identifying a first power consumption and duration of a first power state due to the first system call using a model, identifying a second power consumption and duration of a second power state based on the model, and generating an energy usage profile for the software program. The energy usage profile includes energy consumption of the computing device for the system call based on the first power consumption level multiplied by the first duration and the second power consumption level multiplied by the second duration associated an identifier for the call trace.
Abstract: An apparatus for large-scale dynamic imaging of a sample is described. The apparatus includes an optical detector, a light guide, a dichroic beam splitter, and a light source. The light guide includes a first portion and a second portion. The second defines a tapered shape such that a first diameter defined by a distal end of the second portion is smaller than a second diameter defined by a proximal end of the second portion. The dichroic beam splitter is positioned between the first portion and the second portion of the light guide. The light source is configured to direct a light beam through an external surface of the dichroic beam splitter. The dichroic beam splitter is configured to direct the light beam toward the second open end of the light guide and transfer the return emitted signal through the light guide to the optical detector.
Abstract: The present application generally relates to a method to treat a patient with a bacterial infection caused by Clostridium difficile. Particularly the method compromises the step of administering a therapeutically effective amount of diiodohydroxyquinoline, with or without one or more anti-infective agents, to the patient in need of relief from said infection. Methods of uses and composition matters are within the scope of this disclosure.
Abstract: The present application relates to a method of weed control for a crop field using a synergistic effect of two herbicides cellulosin and isoxaben. A composition matter together with said method comprising cellulosin and isoxaben is within the scope of the present invention.
Abstract: A method of generating an output movement layout for a traffic intersection is disclosed which includes receiving intersection geographical data, establishing a center point for the intersection, receiving vehicle global positioning system (GPS) data, establishing a radius of interest for the intersection based on the received vehicle GPS data, establishing entry and exit headings for each vehicle based on the GPS data, generating an angular cluster chart based on the entry and exit headings of each vehicle, and generating an output movement layout for the intersection based on the generated angular cluster chart. Further, a method for green time reallocation at traffic signals is disclosed that is based on the congestion experienced by vehicles identified as following specific movements.

Abstract: An unmanned ground-based system is disclosed which includes a chassis, a plurality of wheels coupled to the chassis and configured to allow the chassis to move about a surface, a plurality of propeller assemblies configured to provide on-ground motion propulsions, a boom having a boom propeller assembly with a propeller disposed on a plane generally perpendicular to the plurality of propeller assemblies, configured to independently and selectively provide positive and negative rectilinear thrust vectors, and an end-effector coupled to a distal end of the boom, the end-effector having a force sensor configured to provide contact force between the end-effector and an object, wherein the contact force is used as a feedback signal to determine magnitude of the positive and negative rectilinear thrust vectors that is generated by the propeller of the boom propeller assembly.

Abstract: A nanodevice provides for electric-field control of magnon-QSD interactions. The nanodevice includes a ferroelectric substrate, a ferromagnetic material disposed over the ferroelectric substrate, and a nanodiamond including an ensemble of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) spins, each NV magnetically interfacing with the ferromagnetic material. An electric field is measured by applying a voltage across the ferroelectric substrate and the ferromagnetic material, changing a magnon excitation spectrum of the ferromagnetic material with respect to an electron spin resonance frequency of the ensemble of NV spins, and measuring a relaxation rate of the ensemble of NV spins.

Abstract: A method of entangling photons in a distributed quantum-based communication system is disclosed which includes generating sets of entangled photon pairs between a plurality of remote nodes (Nodes Ai and Nodes Bi) and a central entangling node (Node C), wherein Nodes Ai and Bi are in both quantum communication and classical communication with Node C, wherein one photon of a first entangled photon pair set is transmitted Node Ai and one photon of a second entangled photon pair set is transmitted to Node Bi, each over the associated quantum channels, and performing Bell-state measurements between the other photon of the first entangled photon pair and the other photon of the second entangled photon pair, such that if the photons arrive at about same time having about same frequency, then the photon pairs are marked as being entangled.
