Abstract: Various methods for enabling D2D connections to exchange P2P data so as to reduce traffic on a network. One example method may comprise constructing a local topology of one or more mobile terminals. The method of this embodiment may also include determining that a mobile terminal of the one or more mobile terminals has initiated a peer to peer session. The method of this embodiment may also include determining, based on the local topology, one or more mobile terminals to act as one or more seeder devices for the peer to peer session. The method of this embodiment may also include causing the local topology to be transmitted to the mobile terminal that has initiated the peer to peer session. In some example embodiments, the mobile terminal is configured to use the local topology to initiate a device to device connection for the peer to peer session.

  • Publication number: 20130156081
Abstract: A modem is provided for a wireless device that is capable of providing service for at least two SIMs. The modem has at least a first set of modem components and a second set of modem components. The modem selectively reconfigures the arrangement of the plural sets of modem components. In a first configuration, the first set of modem components provides wireless connection service for a first SIM of the wireless device and the second set of modem components provides wireless connection service for a second SIM of the wireless device. This allows active wireless connections to be made on behalf of both SIMs simultaneously by the sets of modem components. In a second configuration, the first set of modem components and the second set of modem components provide wireless connection service for the first SIM.

  • Publication number: 20130155962
Abstract: There is provided a mechanism usable for allocating resources and provide control information about a signal to be transmitted by a communication network element such as a D2D device on resources which may be pre-allocated or allocated directly for the signaling. A resource allocation information element is generated which indicates to resources being allocated to a specific communication function, such as D2D. A content or value of a resource allocation field indicates a control information usable for forming a signal to be transmitted via the indicated resources. By means of the value of the resource allocation field, the D2D device derives a signal characteristic or the like of the signal to be transmitted on the indicated resources. The resource indication may be implicit in the form of an indication of a pre-allocated resource, or direct by indicating a dedicated resource.

  • Patent number: 8467790
Abstract: Solving dual errors for user equipment UE checking whether a private cell is allowed when handing over between serving and target cells, where the PLMN and/or EPLMNs list of the serving and target cells may differ. The serving cell may send a one-bit indication that there is a change in a handover command or system information SI6 message after which the UE may or may not refrain from reporting new cells until it performs a registration/location area update in the target cell. The target cell may trigger in the UE a registration update then provide the UE with the PLMN of the target cell. The serving cell can provide the PLMN of the target cell in a SI6 message or handover command, which the UE may use in place of or in addition to the PLMN/EPLMN of the serving cell when checking whether a private/closed subscriber group cell is allowed.

  • Publication number: 20130138983
Abstract: The present invention introduces a method for saving power in battery limited devices. The invention handles profile properties, which may e.g. be User Interface activity, Bluetooth connection success, email fetch success or WLAN connection success. A value of the property is saved into a memory, e.g. once an hour for the whole calendar week, thus forming a trend value which is regularly updated. Certain behavior patterns may then be seen. When changes in the trend occur with different users or as differences compared to a usual behavior in a calendar week, for instance, the characteristics of the device are altered accordingly in order to minimize power usage.

  • Publication number: 20130130727
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to efficiently establish communications regardless of the radio resource control (RRC) state of the device that issues the discovery signal. In regards to a method, a cell identification and/or tracking area code is associated with a discovery signal. Thereafter, the method causes a discovery signal to be transmitted to discover another device with which to establish communications. The method also receives a paging signal in response to the discovery signal and causes communications to be established in response to the paging signal. By associating a cell identification and/or a tracking area code with at least part of the discovery signal, the paging signals may be focused in the cell and/or tracking area in which the device that issued the discovery signal is located, even when the device is in an RRC Idle state.

  • Publication number: 20130128830
Abstract: In an ad hoc network a feedback radio resource maps from a data radio resource to at least one frequency sub-band which the data resource excludes. The feedback resource is also spaced in time from the data resource by a predetermined interval. Feedback (ACK/NACK) for data received in the data resource is then sent in the feedback resource. In various embodiments the sub-band is one or more edges of the data resource channel, or edges of a component carrier. The predetermined interval may be a function of how much of the data resource is occupied by data. The data transmitting device delays sending its data by a time offset from the end of a previous transmission on that channel, or if it does not know the end time it delays until the predetermined interval plus the length of the feedback resource have lapsed. Various synchronization aspects are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20130130698
Abstract: A user equipment UE reports its mobility state in signaling for establishing, re-establishing, or re-configuring a radio connection between the UE and a network access node. In one embodiment the reported mobility state is selected from among normal; medium and high. In another embodiment the reported mobility state informs of a number of cell changes the UE has performed within a predetermined evaluation period. The UE may also include an indication whether a hysteresis period for entering into a normal mobility state is running for the UE. The network configures the UE in dependence on the reported mobility state, such as setting a parameter for measuring or reporting neighbor cells (e.g., suspend a serving cell quality threshold as a condition for measuring/reporting; limit inter-frequency and/or inter-radio access technology reporting; set a shortest measurement, reporting gap; disable an event trigger; and/or set layer 3 filtering of measurement results for faster reporting).

  • Publication number: 20130130637
Abstract: A receiver uses a local oscillator to receive data transmitted via a combination of radio frequency signals using carrier aggregation. Each radio frequency signal occupies a respective radio frequency band and the radio frequency hands are arranged in two groups, a first group and a second group, separated in frequency by a first frequency region, each of the groups including one or more radio frequency bands and the first group occupying a wider frequency region than the second group. The radio frequency signals are processed using the local oscillator by setting the local oscillator, during the processing, to a frequency that is offset from the centre of a band defined by outer edges of the frequency regions occupied by the two groups.

  • Patent number: 8446813
Abstract: Control bits for switches of a butterfly network are directly solved iteratively for each successive functional column of switches to route data values in parallel according to a multiple access scheme through the butterfly network to memory spaces. A memory space address and appended bus index leading into the butterfly network are generated. A linear order bus index and a physical address are determined for a switch having an unsolved control bit. The solved control bits are applied to solve control bits to a next functional column in a linear and an interleaved order by starting from the bus index and physical address. The linear order is moved to the interleaved order by a reduced turbo de-interleaver and the interleaved order is moved to the linear order by a reduced turbo interleaver until solving a sequence of control bits related to the start bus index and the start physical address.
