Abstract: A compact phasing transmission having an infinitely variable adjustment to the relative phases between the input shaft and output shaft of the transmission is disclosed. A harmonic drive pancake gear set is incorporated between the input shaft and output shaft of the transmission. A pancake motor is enclosed within the phase transmission and is coupled to the harmonic drive pancake gear set to provide input to the wave generator of the harmonic drive. The intermeshing of the pancake motor and harmonic drive between the input shaft and output shaft of the phasing transmission will cause the two shafts to rotate at the same speed. When the pancake motor is activated, the wave generator of the harmonic drive gear set will rotate thereby varying the phases between the input shaft and output shaft of the phasing transmission.
Abstract: A transplanting apparatus for transplanting plants from free draining matrix trays in which each plant containing cell of each matrix tray is provided with a drainage hole at the bottom of a cell. The transplanting apparatus has a matrix tray rotary supply device, an expulsion/indexing device, a plant catching device, and a planter device. The matrix tray rotary supply device vertically holds and supplies matrix trays to the expulsion/indexing device, and rotates to supply a new matrix tray. The explusion/indexing device moves a supply matrix tray in a row by row movement and expulses one row of plants after the other. The plant catching device catches the expulsed plants and aligns the expulsed plants root end down, and the planter device plants the expulsed aligned plants.

Abstract: A substrate for producing a gallium nitride compound-semiconductor (Al.su Ga.sub.1-x N; X=0 inclusive) device in vapor phase on a sapphire substrate using gaseous organometallic compound, and a also blue light emitting diode produced by using the substrate. The buffer layer comprising aluminium nitride (AlN) and having a crystal structure where microcrystal or polycrystal is mixed in amorphous state, is formed on the sapphire substrate. The buffer layer is formed at a growth temperature of 380.degree. to 800.degree. C. to have a thickness of 100 to 500 .ANG.. Further, on the buffer layer is formed the layer of gallium nitride compound-semiconductor (Al.sub.x Ga.sub.1-x N; X=0 inclusive). The layer of gallium nitride compound-semiconductor (Al.sub.x Ga.sub.1-x N; X=0 inclusive) comprising at least two layers having different conductive types and being sequentially layered on the buffer layer, functions as a light emitting layer.

Abstract: A method of analysis of a gaseous sample comprises the steps of introducing into a quistor a sample of ions characteristic of the gaseous sample, applying a potential to the electrodes of said quistor so that only one ionic species is stable in a trap of said quistor at any given instant, incrementing the potential applied to the electrodes of said quistor so that said ionic species becomes unstable and is ejected from said trap and determining the mass/charge ratio from the measurements of the parameters of said ion trap at the point of instability.

Abstract: The polymerization of a cationically polymerizable resin especially an epoxy resin is effected by placing it adjacent to but not in contact with a layer comprising a photoinitiator. The preferred initiators are salts which comprise a fluorine atom such as hexafluorophosphate and tetrafluoroborate salts. The initiator may be irradiated separately which facilitates the curing of resins containing pigments. The products are free from contamination by unreacted initiator.

Abstract: In a static induction transistor of thermionic emission type, its gate region is formed of a semiconductor having a forbidden band gap larger than that of a semiconductor forming its channel region, and the distance between a source region and the intrinsic gate region is selected to be smaller than the mean free path of carriers so as to permit the thermionic emission. Such a vertical structure transistor is also applied to an integrated circuit.

Abstract: A wood composite baseball bat is formed by overlaying a central core of foamed plastic or extruded aluminum with an inner layer of resin-impregnated fiber knitted or woven cloth and then an outer layer consisting of longitudinally extending planks of resin-coated wood veneer. The article is formed by covering the core with the synthetic material impregnated with uncured resin. While the resin impregnating the fibrous material is still unset, the core member is placed within split molds lined with resin-coated strips of wood veneer and the molds are pressed together while the resin is allowed to set to form a unitary mass.

Abstract: A step-cut insulated gate static induction transistor can accurately make a channel length and a gate length and is excellent as a high speed transistor but is greatly affected by a deviation in mask alignment in the manufacturing process. This invention utilizes the fact that a gate portion formed in a previous processes is used as a mask in a post portion to thereby self-adjustably form the post portion, thus eliminating the influence of the deviation in mask alignment. In addition, a construction has been invented in which a current flowing through a portion apart from a gate between a drain and a source can be restricted. The aforesaid manufacturing method is also used for this improved construction.
