  • Patent number: 9500847
Abstract: A multiple wavelength total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy system has an objective. A dispersion unit of the system comprises a high-dispersion optical element. The dispersion unit receives illumination light having at least a first wavelength ?1 and a second wavelength ?2, where ?1??2, and splits the illumination light into a first monochromatic beam having the first wavelength ?1 and a second monochromatic beam having the second wavelength ?2. The monochromatic beams are focused onto a back focal plane of the objective, near an outer edge of the objective, at different radial distances from an optical axis of the objective. The dispersion unit is rotatable in order to adjust angles of incidence of the monochromatic beams onto an interface between a substrate and a sample to be imaged, wherein the angles of incidence are greater than the critical angle of the interface.

  • Patent number: 9498293
Abstract: In an automated method for in vivo multiple cell patch clamping, cell patch clamping devices are automatically moved into position and targeted to multiple corresponding cells. Cell contact is determined by analyzing the temporal series of measured resistance levels at the clamping devices as they are moved. The difference between successive resistance levels is computed and compared to a threshold, which must be exceeded for a minimum number of computations before neuron contact is assumed. Pneumatic control methods are used to achieve cell-attached or gigaseal formation and subsequent cell break-in, leading to whole-cell patch clamp formation. An automated robotic system automatically performs patch clamping in vivo, automatically detecting cells according to the methodology by analyzing the temporal sequence of electrode impedance changes.

  • Patent number: 9501717
Abstract: A method reconstructs and an uncompressed signal by first obtaining an encoded signal corresponding to the uncompressed signal, wherein the encoded signal includes universally quantized dithered linear measurements of the signal, and wherein each universally quantized dithered linear measurement is a quantized dithered linear measurement of the signal missing one or more significant bits. Side information about the signal is obtained, and the side information is used to obtain a prediction of the signal. The missing one or more significant bits are determined from the encoded signal using the prediction of the signal and the missing one or more significant bits are combined with the encoded signal to produce quantized dithered linear measurements of the signal. Then, the signal can be reconstructed as a reconstructed signal using the quantized dithered linear measurements.
