  • Patent number: 9487877
Abstract: In one embodiment, SWNTs are synthesized from an embedded catalyst in a modified porous anodic alumina (PAA) template. Pd is electrodeposited into the template to form nanowires that grow from an underlying conductive layer beneath the PAA and extend to the initiation sites of the SWNTs within each pore. Individual vertical channels of SWNTs are created, each with a vertical Pd nanowire back contact. Further Pd deposition results in annular Pd nanoparticles that form on portions of SWNTs extending onto the PAA surface. Two-terminal electrical characteristics produce linear I-V relationships, indicating ohmic contact in the devices.

  • Patent number: 9486872
Abstract: The present invention relates to a manufacturing method for advanced high-strength steel (AHSS) wheel, comprising the following steps. Take an AHSS with at least 590 MPa of tensile strength for rolling to circular ring of a rim. Apply low heat input welding, such as the cold metal transfer (CMT) welding or the gas tungsten arc welding/tungsten inert gas arc welding (GTAW/TIG), at the junction of the rim to form a hollow cylindrical rim. Then perform hole expanding and spinning/roll forming operations to the rim. Take another AHSS with at least 980 MPa of tensile strength for pressing and forming a disk. Apply low heat input welding, such as cold metal transfer (CMT) welding, to the rim and the disk to produce a wheel. According to the present invention, the welding quality of products can be improved significantly; the fatigue lifetime of wheels can be enhanced; and wheels are lightweight.

  • Patent number: 9487818
Abstract: The present invention provides a TOP2A inhibition by temozolomide useful for predicting glioblastoma patient's survival. Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common, malignant primary adult brain tumor. The conventional treatments for GBM, include surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy which have only modestly improved patient survival. The patients with GBM expressing higher TOP2A transcript levels had better prognosis. More interestingly, the present invention reports that temozolomide is an inhibitor of TOP2A activity in vitro. The present invention further shows that siRNA knock down of TOP2A rendered a glioma cell line resistant to temozolomide chemotherapy. Thus it is demonstrated for the first time that temozolomide is a TOP2A inhibitor and establishes that TOP2A transcript levels determines the chemosensitivity of glioblastoma to temozolomide therapy thus explaining the very high levels of TOP2A transcript being a good prognostic indicator in GBM patients receiving temozolomide chemotherapy.

  • Patent number: 9489618
Abstract: An electronic comparison system includes input stages that successively provide bits of code words. One-shots connected to respective stages successively provide a first bit value until receiving a bit having a non-preferred value concurrently with an enable signal, and then provide a second, different bit value. An enable circuit provides the enable signal if at least one of the one-shots is providing the first bit value. A neural network system includes a crossbar with row and column electrodes and resistive memory elements at their intersections. A writing circuit stores weights in the elements. A signal source applies signals to the row electrodes. Comparators compare signals on the column electrodes to corresponding references using domain-wall neurons and store bit values in CMOS latches by comparison with a threshold.
