Abstract: Fused cyclopentane—4-substituted 3,5-dioxalane lactone compounds useful as an intermediate in the synthesis of prostaglandin analogs are provided. The compounds have the formula A: wherein R represents an aryl group such as p-methoxyphenyl. This compound can be reacted with a lower alkyl aluminum compound to open the dioxalane ring and reduce the lactone to lactol, without over-reducing to diol. The resulting compound can be functionalized to insert chemical side groups of target prostaglandins, adding the required ?-side chain and then the required ?-side chain sequentially and independently of each other. The compounds and process are particularly suitable for preparing lubiprostone.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for performing the estimation and/or prediction of the dynamic system state of large power system networks, using a multi-processor approach. More particularly, a large power system network is divided into smaller sub-systems, each sub-system having associated dynamic state variables. Each sub-system is assigned to one or more of a plurality of processing elements, and dynamic state variables for each sub-system are estimated or predicted independently, using the processing elements and sensor measurements. In several embodiments, the dynamic state of each sub-system is computed through the construction of a set of dedicated observers, such as linear parameter-varying (LPV) observers, which are designed to reduce the effects of other sub-systems on the state estimation problem.

Abstract: A motor structure includes a case, a rotor, a first magnet, a second magnet and at least one magnetic conductive plate, wherein the rotor is disposed within an accommodating slot of the case, and the first magnet is disposed between the case and the rotor. The first magnet comprises a first end portion spaced apart with the case to define a first separation space. The second magnet comprises a second end portion spaced apart with the case to define a second separation space. A spacing slot is composed of the first separation space and the second separation space, and the at least one magnetic conductive plate is disposed within the spacing slot. The magnetic conduction through the at least one magnetic conductive plate enables to lower the reluctance of the motor structure for prevention of magnetic flux leakage therefore increasing the air-gap flux density.
