Publication number: 20140006045Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for reporting, organizing and notifying interested parties of injuries to athletes, students or other minors. Injury reports may be generated by multiple different parties using a variety of reporting platforms, such as desktop computers and smartphones, and with a variety of modalities, such as software, web-based applications, text message or e-mail. The injury reports are organized to generate a single injury event, and a notification of the injury is then automatically sent to one or more interested or authorized parties, such as a parent, guardian, coach, teacher, trainer, doctor or school administrator. Parties may submit revisions to the injury event if information changes or as the injured party's condition changes, and additional notifications will be generated for each revision. Publication number: 20140005877Abstract: A method reduces the computational complexity for determining optimal run-curves for a specific travel time Iola vehicle along a route between two locations, when travel time and speed limit requirements are subject to change. The determination is partitioned into preprocessing and real-time steps. A set of weights are generated, and run-curves for the weights are obtained and stored during the preprocessingA state transition matrix is generated in the preprocessing step and updated partially in the real-time step only for a subspace of velocities and locations constrained by speed limits. The optimal weight for solving an objective function to obtain an optimal run-curve can be obtained by searching with an initial estimation of multiple weights, and interpolating from the relation between the travel time and the initial weights to obtain the optimal weight.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 19, 2012Publication date: January 2, 2014Applicant: Mitsubishi Electric Research LaboratoriesInventors: Jingyang Xu, Daniel Nikovski

Publication number: 20140002203Abstract: This invention provides an extremely accurate way to characterize the Young's modulus of thin film materials with thicknesses in the nanometer range. It takes advantage of a recently developed high Q silicon Young's modulus resonator (YMR), which has a record high quality factor of about fifty million in operation at temperatures below 10 degrees Kelvin (10K). Because of the high Q of the YMR, the temperature stability of the YMR's resonance frequency below 1K, and the extremely high degree of vibration isolation inherent in the inventive design, the relative resolution of the resonant frequency is typically in 2×10?7. This is enough to resolve a resonant frequency shift after a deposition of a thin film onto the sensitive part of the resonator, and to compute the Young's modulus of thin film materials of even a few monolayers thickness.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2013Publication date: January 2, 2014Applicant: US Gov't Represented by Secretary of the Navy Chief of Naval Research Office of Counsel ONR/NRLInventors: Xiao Liu, Thomas H. Publication number: 20140002594Abstract: A depth map image, unlike a texture view, has smooth regions without complex texture and abrupt changes of pixel value at the object edges. While conventional Inter-prediction skip mode is very efficient for coding texture views, it does not include any Intra-prediction capability, which can be very efficient for coding smooth regions. The hybrid prediction skip mode according to the presently claimed invention includes an Inter-prediction Skip mode coupled with various Intra-prediction modes. The selection of the prediction mode is made by computing a Side Match Distortion (SMD) for the prediction modes. Because no additional overhead indicator bit is required and that the bitstream syntax is not altered, high coding efficiency is maintained and the coding scheme for coding depth maps in accordance to the presently disclosed invention can be implemented easily as an extension to existing standards.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 29, 2012Publication date: January 2, 2014Applicant: Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Company LimitedInventors: Yui-Lam Chan, Sik-Ho Tsang, Wan-Chi Siu, Hoi-Kok Cheung, Wai-Lam Hui, Pak-Kong Lun, Junyan Ren
