Abstract: An energy control method for an energy management system provides an operation plan for the energy management system for monitoring and controlling an energy charging and discharging state according to an energy storage type, since energy self-sufficiency at home is enabled through association between an energy storage system (ESS) such as an electric vehicle charging station and home as a renewable energy power supply in the form of a distributed energy resource (DER) is constructed at home. The energy control method adds functions of a home energy management system (HEMS) managing and controlling a renewable energy power supply, the ESS, and the electric vehicle charging station that may be constructed at home afterwards, thereby providing consumers with a control order of various facilities not considered before. Therefore, information on settlements caused by energy supply and demand procedures and energy trading details and management evaluation functions may be provided.

Abstract: The present invention relates to antifungal and/or antibacterial peptides, especially antifungal peptides obtained from insect species, particularly lepidopterans. The present invention also provides methods of using these antifungal peptides to treat or prevent fungal growth for a variety of purposes, such as protecting plants from fungal infections; treating fungal infections of animals, especially humans; and prevention of food spoilage.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus combining bypass diode and wire. According to the present invention, the bypass diode can connect with the wire directly. It is not necessary to reserve an extra region on the substrate of the solar cell as the wire soldering area. Thereby, the required area of the ceramic substrate is reduced, and hence lowering the manufacturing cost of the solar cell substantially.

Abstract: Provided are lubricant compositions from renewable biological sources with improved properties and methods of making and using such compositions. In one form, the lubricant composition includes from 20 to 99.8 wt. % of a lube base stock produced from a renewable biological source and an effective amount of one or more lubricant additives. The lube base stock includes 10 to 35 wt. % paraffins, 40 to 70 wt. % 1-ring naphthenes, and 0 to 40 wt. % combined 2-ring naphthenes and aromatics, and has a ratio of 1-ring naphthenes to paraffins from 1.8 to 5.0, and a Viscosity Index of from 100 to 160. The lube base stock has a 14C level ranging from 2 to 101% of the modern day 14C level in the atmosphere, and yields a CCS ratio of less than or equal to 0.85 at ?35° C. The lubricant compositions exhibit improved solvency and % thickening when blended with a viscosity modifier.

Abstract: An oscillating foil turbine has a foil having a first fluid dynamic surface for producing lift in a fluid flow, a support for the foil, and a second fluid dynamic surface, wherein the support allows for cyclic motion of the first and second surfaces with respect to each other. A driven member is provided to tap energy from flow throughout each cycle. Throughout at least part of the cyclic translation, the fluid dynamic surfaces are oriented sufficiently parallel, and separated by a distance that is sufficiently small, to achieve a substantial wing-in-ground effect.

Abstract: A method for treating an ocular disorder characterized by the defect or absence of a normal gene in the ocular cells of a human or animal subject involves administering to the subject by subretinal injection an effective amount of a recombinant adeno-associated virus carrying a nucleic acid sequence encoding the normal gene under the control of a promoter sequence which expresses the product of the gene in the ocular cells. The ocular cells are preferably retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells, and the gene is preferably an RPE-specific gene, e.g., RPE65. The promoter is one that can express the gene product in the RPE cells. Compositions for subretinal administration are useful in this method.

A method for the treatment and prophylaxis of various medical conditions including environmental induced oxidative stress using the therapeutic ischemic and reperfusion device and associated monitoring system is also contemplated herein. The method uses an inflatable cuff around the limb or torso of a subject operated by a controller configured to inflate and deflate the cuff. The monitoring system is used to monitor the physical and metabolic environments of the subject during and subsequent to the ischemia and reperfusion.
