  • Patent number: 8529561
Abstract: An improved optical fiber comprising a waveguide with an input for coupling focused laser energy into the waveguide and communicating electromagnetic radiation in a propagation direction to an internally reflective tip of the waveguide, a tissue contacting surface wherein the light path from the reflecting surface to the transmitting surface in substantially homogenous in refractive index and cooled by fluid flow. In minimizing the variations in refractive index within the lateral light path, while providing active cooling directly below the tissue contact surface, the invention prevents internal reflections and beam distortion and greatly improves the efficiency and durability of the laterally directing probe. Free rotation of the tissue contact surface, about the lateral tip, may be provided and tissue vaporization efficiency may be improved by providing a morcellating tool on the tissue contact surface.

  • Patent number: 8531029
Abstract: A system and method are provided for fabricating a low electric resistance ohmic contact, or interface, between a Carbon Nanotube (CNT) and a desired node on a substrate. In one embodiment, the CNT is a Multiwalled, or Multiwall, Carbon Nanotube (MWCNT), and the interface provides a low electric resistance ohmic contact between all conduction shells, or at least a majority of conduction shells, of the MWCNT and the desired node on the substrate. In one embodiment, a Focused Electron Beam Chemical Vapor Deposition (FEB-CVD) process is used to deposit an interface material near an exposed end of the MWCNT in such a manner that surface diffusion of precursor molecules used in the FEB-CVD process induces lateral spread of the deposited interface material into the exposed end of the MWCNT, thereby providing a contact to all conduction shells, or at least a majority of the conduction shells, of the MWCNT.

  • Patent number: 8531456
Abstract: The present invention provides a novel remeshing approach for genus-g meshes that overcomes distortion problems. The proposed approach is based on continuous mapping of a 2D grid on the 3D meshed model. The criteria of the new mesh can be defined directly on the 2D grid. The remeshing is invariant to the original mesh. Due to topological analysis, the mapping of the 2D grid onto the 3D mesh minimizes distortion and guarantees continuity. The 2D grid, the element shapes and the density (multiresolution) can be changed straightforwardly, thus generating a modular approach.

  • Patent number: 8532109
Abstract: Methods and systems for reroute and generation of backward routing information are provided. When an originator node wants to transmit a packet to a destination node and cannot transmit the packet to a next node recorded in a routing table, the originator node records a backward packet tag and information of the originator node into the packet, and transmits the edited packet to a backup node recorded in the routing table. The backup node retrieves a backward routing table in response to the backward packet tag to see whether a forwarding node corresponding to the originator node and the destination node is a backward routing terminal. If not, the backup node transmits the packet to the forwarding node. If so, the backup node removes the backward packet tag and the information of the originator node from the packet, and transmits the packet to the forwarding node.

  • Patent number: 8531550
Abstract: Automatic exposure adjusting device considers the image on a pixel-by-pixel basis. Each pixel is characterized according to its most significant bits. After the pixels are characterized, the number of pixels in any particular group is counted. That counting is compared with thresholds which set whether the image is over exposed, under exposed, and can optionally also determine if the image is seriously over exposed or seriously under exposed. Adjustment of the exposure is carried out to bring the image to a more desired state.

  • Publication number: 20130230917
Abstract: This invention relates to the culture of dendritic cells from human embryonic stem (ES) cells. Human ES cells are first cultured into hematopoietic cells by co-culture with stromal cells. The cells now differentiated into the hematopoietic lineage are then cultured with GM-CSF to create a culture of myeloid precursor cells. Culture of the myeloid precursor cells with the cytokines GM-CSF and IL-4 causes functional dendritic cells to be generated. The dendritic cells have a unique phenotype, as indicated by their combination of cell surface markers.
