Abstract: Provided is a method and apparatus for encoding and decoding an enhancement layer to reduce quantization error in a G.711 codec. Exponent indices of additional mantissa information of each sample are calculated based upon exponent information of each sample in a frame. A process of allocating 1 bit to each sample with a current exponent index is repeated, the exponent index starting from the maximum value while decreasing by 1 at every repetition until the total number of bits allocated to the samples is equal to the total number of available bits in the frame. And the most significant bits, as many as the number of bits allocated to each sample, are extracted from the additional mantissa information of each sample in the frame.

Abstract: A gated electrical device includes a non-conductive substrate and a graphene structure disposed on the non-conductive substrate. A metal gate is disposed directly on a portion of the graphene structure. The metal gate includes a first metal that has a high contact resistance with graphene. Two electrical contacts are each placed on the graphene structure so that the metal gate is disposed between the two electrical contacts. In a method of making a gated electrical device, a graphene structure is placed onto a non-conductive substrate. A metal gate is deposited directly on a portion of the graphene structure. Two electrical contacts are deposited on the graphene structure so that the metal gate is disposed between the two electrical contacts.

Abstract: A novel apparatus and method for changing the behavior of an electronic device is provided. In an embodiment, an electronic device includes the functionality of a cellular phone, a voice mail system and a calendar application. The device is configured to use the calendar application to determine whether to direct a phone call to the user or whether to instantly direct the call to voice mail.
Abstract: A system in which a fluid flows characterized by a change with time in space. A preselected place in the system is monitored to collect data at two or more time points correlated to a system event. The data is indicative of a system parameter that varies with time as a function of at least two variables related to system wash-in and wash-out behavior. To select time points a calibration map is calculated using color hue indicative of wash-out and color intensity indicative of wash-in. A color coded output map is developed. The calibration map, the color coded output map and image are novel implementations.
Abstract: A computer system includes a memory hub for coupling a processor to a plurality of synchronous dynamic random access memory (“SDRAM”) devices. The memory hub includes a processor interface coupled to the processor and a plurality of memory interfaces coupled to respective SDRAM devices. The processor interface is coupled to the memory interfaces by a switch. Each of the memory interfaces includes a memory controller, a cache memory, and a prediction unit. The cache memory stores data recently read from or written to the respective SDRAM device so that it can be subsequently read by processor with relatively little latency. The prediction unit prefetches data from an address from which a read access is likely based on a previously accessed address.
Abstract: A pattern-generating intraocular probe is provided that includes a cannula including a diffractive optical element (DOE), the DOE being patterned such that an on-axis illumination of the DOE produces an emitted beam forming a linear pattern; and a handpiece connected to a proximal of the cannula.

Abstract: There is provided an anonymous service method of providing local linkability. The anonymous service method providing local linkability according to exemplary embodiments of the invention, an anonymous authentication operation based on a short group signature is performed, for which the concept of a local linkability is introduced to secure linkability within the same service domain. Namely, in the interior of a service provider, a virtual index having a fixed value is calculated for each service user, and in this case, although a plurality of service providers collude with each other, they cannot calculate a virtual index having the same value, whereby the linkability can be secured within the same service domain but not within the interiors of different service domains.
