    Abstract: A method for optimally producing a holographic image using a Holographic Optical Element (HOE) and the HOE meant for controlling directions and divergences of light beams to impart system compactness. The system uses concave and convex lenses and other beam expanding, splitting, modulating and combining optics for realization of compactness and high throughput. The thin laser beam is split using a holographic optical element and a conventional beam splitter. A neutral density filter adjusts the intensity of a reference beam to match the intensity of an object beam so that high quality digital holograms can be recorded. Effects of vibrations are minimized by the compact optical design, by anti-vibration mounts, by mounting all the opto-mechanical components on a single rigid platform and by enclosing the system. An electro-optical sensor array records holograms digitally and an algorithm numerically reconstructs and further quantifies the results using a personal computer/laptop/tablet etc.

The methods include administering to a subject a succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor in an amount and for a time effective to elicit an improvement in cardiac structure and/or function. The subjects include subjects suffering from cardiac damage, such as damage resulting from myocardial infarction or other cardiac events. Improvements in cardiac function include one or more of an increase in cardiomyocyte proliferation, an increase in ejection fraction, an increase in fractional shortening, a decrease in left ventricle internal diameter diastole, and a decrease in left ventricle internal diameter systole. Improvements in cardiac structure include one or more of decreased fibrosis, an increase in myocardial thickness, an increase in coronary artery formation, an increase in capillary density, an increase in revascularization, and a decrease in myocardial lesion size.

Mechanical force-induced cycloaddition of aziridines as mechanophores yields stereospecific products without covalent bond cleavage of aziridines. That is, a mechanical force makes the mechanochemical products stereospecific. The stereospecific products prepared from the isomeric mechanophores by a mechanical force can be widely used in various industrial fields, including new materials.

    Abstract: Described herein are membrane processes for separating CO2 from flue gas. An exemplary process involves passing a fluid stream including the flue gas across a membrane permeable to CO2 and H2O, removing treated gas from a feed side of the membrane that has less CO2 than the flue gas, and removing permeate from a permeate side of the membrane comprising CO2 and H2O. Suitably, the permeate is removed at a sub-atmospheric vacuum pressure. The permeate is then cooled to remove at least some of the H2O from the permeate and form a smaller volume of H2O-depleted, CO2 enriched permeate.
