Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to systems and methods of use for draining cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from a brain or a spinal canal in a subject, for example, to treat hydrocephalus or other conditions. In some embodiments, the disclosure relates to a device comprising a flow controller positioned within a conduit that allows CSF to flow through the conduit from a first end to a second end. This may allow the CSF to drain, for example, from an intradural space (such as a thecal sac) into, for example, a paraspinal space, paraspinal vein or other venous space, or peritoneal cavity. A variety of methods may be used to hold or anchor the device in place, for example, an expansion apparatus. In some embodiments, the device can be implanted percutaneously at a location along or within a subject's spinal column, thus reducing the need for surgery, general anesthesia, and hospitalizations.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for direct reprogramming from somatic cells into pancreatic beta cells by using microRNA and small-molecule materials. The inventors of the present invention confirmed that, as a result of having attempted direct reprogramming upon co-treatment of microRNA and small-molecules (e.g., various differentiation-inducing materials), the expression level of PDX1 remarkably increased in pancreatic beta cells, and, when pancreatic beta-like cells were induced using such a method, direct reprogramming was performed with very high yield. In addition, since autologous cells are used, the present invention has the advantages of no occurrence of immune rejection responses and a low possibility of developing cancer, and thus is expected to be effectively used in the development of safer cellular therapeutic agents.

Abstract: A method for estimating stream flow data of a channel includes steps of acquiring direct measurement of an index velocity of the channel, acquiring stage measurements for the channel for use in determining slope of a free surface, and applying a data-driven model combining the index velocity and a continuous slope-area method which uses the slope of the free surface to estimate stream flow data of the channel without using conventional rating curves. The direct measurement of the index velocity and the stage measurements may be received at a computing device executing instructions for applying the data-driven model.
