    Abstract: Provided is a method of using a nanowire diode with an array of more than 100 nanowires functionalized with binding agents that bind to one or more specific biomarkers, the nanowires being non-horizontally aligned on a substrate, and the nanowires being electrically connected to each other, to measure the presence or absence of the one or more specific biomarkers. The method comprises exposing the nanowires to a solution of interest, shining light with a wavelength between 350 nm and 700 nm on the nanowire diode, measuring electrical current that is optically induced in the nanowire diode by the light, and comparing the optically induced electrical current with and without the solution of interest present to deduce a concentration of the one or more specific biomarkers in the solution of interest.

An image sensor senses light from the at least one light emitter that has been incident on the plant specimen. A processor analyzes data obtained from the light sensor to assess one or more properties of the plant specimen. There may be more than one light emitter, e.g., a halogen lamp and LED array, and the apparatus may acquire images under more than one lighting condition. The apparatus may include a mechanism for moving the plant specimen relative to the optical path to take images at multiple regions of interest on the specimen.

Methods of making and implanting artificial menisci are also disclosed herein. The methods of making include, but are not limited to, stepwise molding, layering, and curing of polymer material around the circumferential and non-circumferential fiber bundles. The methods of implanting include threading ends of the circumferential fiber bundles through first and second bone tunnels, then immobilizing the ends of the circumferential fiber bundles with respect to the bone of the subject.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for analyzing samples, such as tissue samples, and measuring the emissions when these samples are exposed to light are disclosed. Embodiments include illuminating multiple target locations on a sample with laser light, which may first be manipulated by a scanner, and receiving decaying emissions from the target location. At least some embodiments include the emissions traveling backwards along a substantial portion of the laser light pathway and being received by a detector. Additional embodiments include converting the received emissions into streak lines of position versus time, converting the streak lines to plots of signal strength versus time, and curve fitting the plots to determine representative decay times. In some embodiments, the decay times are presented as plots of position on the surface of the sample versus emission strength, which may be color coded. Some embodiment dwell on each target location for multiple scans of the laser.
