  • Publication number: 20140250111
Abstract: Certain implementations of the disclosed technology include systems and methods for external linking based on hierarchal level weightings. The method may include associating external query data having one or more query field values with a record in a linked hierarchical database. The linked hierarchical database may include a plurality of records, each record having a record identifier and representing an entity in a hierarchy, each record associated with a hierarchy level, each record including one or more fields, each field configured to contain a field value. The associating may include receiving the external query data, wherein the external query data includes one or more search values; and identifying, from the plurality of records in the linked hierarchical database, one or more matched fields having field values that at least partially match the one or more search values.

  • Patent number: 8825894
Abstract: Receiving streaming content from servers located around the globe, including the following steps: requesting via the Internet, by an assembling device which may be located almost anywhere around the globe, using a fragment pull protocol, a set of erasure-coded fragments associated with segments off streaming content, from a plurality of fractional-storage servers which may be located almost anywhere around the globe. And compensating for lost fragments by requesting additional erasure-coded fragments that are needed to reconstruct the segments. Wherein the bandwidth of the streaming content is bounded approximately only by the incoming bandwidth of the assembling device.

  • Patent number: 8819260
Abstract: An assembling device obtaining enough erasure-coded fragments from fractional-storage CDN servers for reconstructing a first set of segments including at least one segment. The communication between the assembling device and the servers is subject to at least one type of communication fault, and the assembling device handles the communication faults by approximately randomly selecting on-the-fly servers from which to obtain additional fragments instead of fragments that failed to be obtained.

  • Patent number: 8819261
Abstract: Load-balancing an asymmetrical distributed erasure-coded system including fractional-storage CDN servers, storing, at a high storage gain, erasure-coded fragments encoded with a redundancy factor greater than one from segments, and a plurality of assembling devices, each obtaining fragments from a subgroup of the servers. The subgroups are selected from the servers still capable of increasing their fragment delivery throughput. Wherein not all of the servers have the same fragment delivery bandwidth capability, and the storage gain of each segment on each server is usually not strictly proportional to the bandwidth capability of the server, and the aggregated throughput used by the servers to deliver fragments may approach the aggregated bandwidth capabilities of the servers.

  • Patent number: 8819259
Abstract: Fast retrieval and progressive retransmission of content, including the steps of obtaining erasure-coded fragments by an assembling server from fractional-storage CDN servers; reconstructing a streaming content file from the obtained fragments; and streaming the reconstructed content or a transcoded version of the content by the assembling server to a client device. Wherein most of the fractional-storage CDN servers are located close to or on the Internet backbone, and streaming the reconstructed content takes at least an order of magnitude longer than obtaining the fragments and reconstructing the content.

Abstract: A variable resolution grid provides a mechanism for focusing specific concentrations of risk exposure on a geographical grid to determine projected loss caused by a particular catastrophe. The geographic grid provides a stable base map by using latitudes and longitudes to define the grid points and cells. Each cell is assigned a geographic identifier or geocode that identifies the location of the cell and its associated resolution. • Publication number: 20140099626
Abstract: Embodiments include a method, system and computer program product for automating individual learner course selection. The method includes accessing, by a computer processor, course descriptions for a plurality of variants of a course. The course descriptions include course variant characteristics and course variant titles. The course variant characteristics define target audiences for each of the variants of the course. Information about a user, including user characteristics is received. The course variant characteristics are compared to the user characteristics. Based on the comparing, a specificity value is calculated for each of the variants of the course. The specificity value indicates a degree of match between the user and a target audience of the variant of the course. A variant of the course is selected for the user based on the specificity values, and the course title of the selected variant of the course is output.

  • Patent number: 8680994
Abstract: A method for designating vegetation as potential impact vegetation includes identifying data relating to target vegetation from a dataset and determining a reach distance of the target vegetation. The reach distance includes a distance from a point on a ground to a point of the target vegetation that is farthest from the point on the ground.
