  • Patent number: 5868099
Abstract: First and second pairs of arms are respectively disposed at opposite ends of a support structure. A constrainable member (e.g., a spring) is supported at its opposite ends by corresponding ones of the arms in the pairs. This is the only constrainable member in the page clamping device. When the spring is unconstrained, the arms in each pair are normally closed. The arms in each pair are pivotable independently of the arms in the other pair. The arms in each pair have at first positions camming peripheries which cause one of such arms to pivot when the other of such arms is pivoted. The arms in each pair have at second positions camming peripheries which provide a stable relationship between the arms when the arms are in an open position. The arms in each pair are disposed on the opposite sides of a book from the arms in the other pair. With the arms in the open relationship, the pages can be easily turned.

  • Patent number: 5868209
Abstract: A device on hand-held tool-driving machines for the coupling of pounding and/or drilling tools is proposed, comprising at least three couplings and one axial locking feature, which are uniformly distributed over the circumference of the tool shank (11) and seating hole (13) of a tool holder (10). The couplings comprise recesses (17, 19, 21) on the tool shank (11) running axially to the shank end and also projections (18, 20, 22) on the circumference of the seating hole (13) running axially and engaging with the recesses. In order to avoid thrust-like overloads, it is proposed that the coupling (21, 22) in the circumferential area opposite the axial locking feature be designed/shaped such that its recess (21) and projection (22) on at least one longitudinal side run in chord-shaped fashion to the circumference of the tool shank (10) or the seating hole (13) of the tool holder (10) (FIG. 1).

  • Patent number: 5867884
Abstract: A device for measuring the mass of a flowing medium having a temperature-dependent sensor element, which is inserted flush in a recess of a sensor carrier and is retained therein by means of an adhesive. The sensor carrier is made by bending a thin metal strip and has two elements, a frame element and a retaining element, which together form a recess, into which the sensor element is inserted flush and glued by means of an adhesive to a plateau-like protuberance of a bottom face of the retaining element. The sensor carrier is intended for a device for measuring the mass of a flowing medium for measuring the flow rate or mass of the air aspirated by internal combustion engines.

  • Patent number: 5865213
Abstract: The invention relates to an electromagnetically actuated, controllable valve with first and second valve stages, of which the first stage is actuated by an armature and the second stage functions automatically. An opening cross-section of the first valve stage is small and an opening cross-section of the second valve stage is larger than said opening cross section of said first stage. The first valve stage when in a closed position keeps the second valve stage closed. When the first valve stage opens a spring element opens the second valve stage. The valve according to the invention has an advantage of an only slight actuating force, and the total actuating force is actuatable exclusively to the first valve stage, and the further advantage of a large opening cross-section and hence a low flow resistance.

  • Patent number: 5866822
Abstract: A device for measuring various fluid pressures, the device includes a sensor plate which has fastening holes, which are distributed in matrixlike fashion over the sensor plate. Measuring diaphragms, which form end walls of blind bores in the sensor plate, are located between the fastening holes. Through fluid conduits of a hydraulic block to which the sensor plate can be secured, the measuring diaphragms can be acted upon by pressure. The evaluation is done with four strain gauges applied to each measuring diaphragm, the strain gauges being interconnected to form a Wheatstone bridge. Because it is possible to mount the sensor plate in a way that optimizes strain, it is possible to measure various pressures with minimal measurement error using one sensor plate.

  • Patent number: 5866810
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method of detecting disturbances of the crankshaft rpm for an internal combustion engine which are caused by an empty tank. Uneven-running values (LU) of the engine are detected which are distributed in bands of values and the spacing between the bands of uneven-running values (LU) is computed. A quantity of the engine is detected which is relevant to the exhaust gas of the engine. A check is then made to determine whether the computed band spacing is less than a pregiven threshold spacing and whether the exhaust-gas relevant quantity lies within a pregiven threshold value interval and, if so, this data is utilized as an indication that the disturbances of the crankshaft rpm are caused by an empty tank.

  • Patent number: 5862791
Abstract: A process and a device for controlling an internal combustion engine, in particular for influencing the time of fuel injection into an internal combustion engine, influences a system deviation, which is computed from a setpoint and an actual value. From the system deviation, a controller defines a manipulated variable to be supplied to the actuator. When a set of first operating states is present, a first controller structure is active, and when a set of second operating states is present, a second controller structure is active. At the time of passage from the first controller structure to the second controller structure, an initial value is set for the second controller structure as a function of at least the setpoint and the actual value.

  • Patent number: 5862991
Abstract: When an internal combustion engine is hot, especially in hot starting or during hot idling, outgassing of fuel occurs upstream of the injection port disk and at the injection ports; as a result, because too little fuel is supplied, the running performance is undesirably impaired. The running performance of the engine is therefore intended to be improved by preventing the development of vapor bubbles. By the provision of a transfer element, in the form of a raised body shoulder formed on the valve seat body, that reduces the heat transfer between the valve seat body and the injection port disk, it is accomplished that the injection port disk cools down as a result of the extracted heat of evaporation of the injected fuel, and thus the danger of vapor bubble development at the injection ports or upstream is reduced. The fuel injection valve is especially suitable for fuel injection systems in mixture-compressing internal combustion engines with externally supplied ignition.

  • Patent number: 5860541
Abstract: A teat or nipple for the feeding of young animals. The teat is formed by a hollow body (10) made of a resilient material. The body has an inlet end (11) and an outlet end (12). The outlet end includes one or more slits (20) through the wall (19) of the body. The slit or slits (20) do not extend into that area (18) of the wall (19) of the body which forms the extremity (18) of the outlet end (12). A valve 26, 27) is located in the inlet end (11), said vale having a bore (30) with a pair of flaps (36) at the inner end of the bore, these flaps defining an outlet slot (38) through which liquid passing through one end of the bore can pass into the interior of the hollow body. The valve in its relaxed state is open to permit such flow to occur but the flaps are such as to close the outlet slot (38) upon any reverse flow of liquid from the interior of the hollow body occurring.

  • Patent number: 5860277
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for monitoring the operating capability of a catalyzer in the exhaust duct of an internal combustion engine, the operating capability of the catalyzer is assessed on the basis of the increase in temperature produced by the exothermic conversion of the exhaust gases in the catalyzer. The increase in temperature is determined with the aid of two temperature signals, the first temperature signal being produced on the basis of a measurement downstream of the catalyzer and the second temperature signal being formed with the aid of a temperature model. The temperature model may form the temperature downstream of a completely inoperational catalyzer, a catalyzer which is still just sufficiently operational, or a catalyzer which is fully operational. The assessment of the operating capability of the catalyzer is performed on the basis of criteria which are matched to the temperature model used.
