  • Patent number: 4437154
Abstract: A device is proposed for generating control signals with a primary and an auxiliary control unit, having an error indication circuit layout and a subsequently disposed switchover device from the primary to the auxiliary control unit. The auxiliary control unit operates in parallel with the primary control unit and emits monitoring signals spaced apart in time from those of the primary control unit, which do not yet influence the consumer. If the device is put to use as an injection signal generator in internal combustion engines, then it is recommended that the auxiliary control unit emit its output signal either one cycle later, or 180.degree. of crankshaft angle later, than does the primary control unit. The occurrence of the individual signals can be detected and evaluated. Upon the appearance of an error, the former auxiliary control circuit can then be switched over to become the primry control circuit; in that event, then a reversal must then be effected in the times when the individual pulses occur.

  • Patent number: 4435625
Abstract: An insulating cup-shaped body (29) that is screwed into the rim (11) of a vehicle wheel prevents conduction of heat (generated by the brakes, for example) from heating the metallic body (16) that forms a reference pressure chamber closed off by a membrane (17) from the inflated interior of a vehicle tire. The membrane (17) is set slightly within the rim of the cup for protection during tire changes. The chamber and switch housing (16) and a spool (27) for the coil of a resonant circuit form a preassembled unit that is snapped into the insulating cup and cemented into place. The relatively large coil diameter adds to the economy of the device, permitting the use of a small capacitor. The temperature of the gas sealed in the reference pressure chamber (18) by closure of the filling bore with a steel ball (25) follows the temperature of the interior of the tire and reliably opens the resonant circuit if the tire pressure falls below a prescribed limit.

  • Patent number: 4435128
Abstract: A rotational body supported in a housing of the apparatus carries an angle indication marker, which serves as a signal trigger of a signal transducer secured in a positionally fixed manner relative to the housing of the rotational body. The signal transducer has a transducer body axially displaceably disposed in its transducer housing. This body is displaceable in the direction of its longitudinal axis in order to actuate a first contact switch, and is provided inside its other end face with a switch contact, cooperating with the angle indication marker, of a second contact switch. After the actuation of both contact switches, the angle indication marker is located in a predetermined rotary position, which is indicated in the associated test circuit and serves in particular to ascertain the supply onset position of the drive shaft of a fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines.

  • Patent number: 4435745
Abstract: A device is proposed for generating specific electrical voltage values for consumers associated with an internal combustion engine. The device also encompasses a voltage elevating circuit which can be switched on in the vicinity of the minimum voltages for the consumers. This means that this voltage elevating circuit does not need to be switched on continuously during engine operation, but rather only at times of increased power needs. The voltage elevating circuit has a series circuit of a coil 20 and a diode 21 in a voltage supply line, and the connecting point of these two components is briefly closed off from the other supply line in a clocked manner. The activation of the voltage elevating circuit can be switched on and off in accordance with the input and output voltages and in accordance with the maximum permissible switching current. Depending on the clock frequency of the switch 23, the line inductance of the supply line suffices as an inductance 20.

  • Patent number: 4435660
Abstract: In order to increase the power output of a magneto generator without causing additional undesired sparks to be generated in the ignition system, a plurality of permanent magnets each having associated pole pieces is arranged around the periphery of a magnet wheel. The ignition armature and at least one additional armature are fixedly mounted so that, during rotation of the wheel, the pole pieces interact with the legs of an E-shaped core in each of the armatures. However, the polarity of the permanent magnets is such that only the first of these magnets causes the generation of a spark in the ignition system. The polarity of the additional permanent magnets is such that no spark is induced when they pass by the ignition armature during rotation of the wheel. Since all three magnets, regardless of the polarity, are active in inducing AC voltages in the auxiliary armature windings, the power output of the latter is increased.

  • Patent number: 4435033
Abstract: To permit one-hand operation of engagement and disengagement of separable electrical connectors, for example of multi-terminal connectors in automotive use, the connectors are formed with adjacent side walls fitting within each other; the inner side walls of one part are formed with locking projections extending laterally outwardly and having at least one flat engaging surface extending transversely to unlocking direction, and fitting against a matching engaging surface formed on the side wall of the other part. To permit unlocking, the inner side wall is formed with a projecting fulcrum bead or ridge, the side wall of the other part being extended beyond the fulcrum bead or ridge so that, upon compression of the extending portion over the fulcrum bead or ridge, the side wall of the other part will be resiliently deflected outwardly, thus releasing the engagement surfaces from each other.

  • Patent number: 4433667
Abstract: An apparatus for regulating the exhaust gas recycling rate in an internal combustion engine having self-ignition is proposed, in which a set-point or nominal ignition delay value is ascertained, and the actual ignition delay value is regulated to this nominal value. The nominal ignition delay value is efficaciously derived from a multi-dimensional memory, the coordinate values of which are dependent on at least load and rpm. The ignition delay time is ascertained from a comparison of the signal for the injection onset of an injection nozzle, for instance, and the signal of a pressure sensor communicating with the combustion chamber.

  • Patent number: 4433670
Abstract: The period of conduction of an electronic interrupter of an ignition circuit is made shorter increasingly with falling engine speed in comparison to the duration of the period for which the switching path of the engine driven timing generator maintains its condition immediately before the ignition moment. During the time in which that condition is maintained immediately before changing at the ignition moment a capacitor (26) is provided with a first change (b) of its charge in a first direction and thereafter a second change (c) thereof is produced in the other direction. The switching of the electronic interrupter (7) into the conducting condition occurs when the charge of the capacitor reaches a threshold value during the second change of the charge. That threshold value is modifiable by a regulating value that depends at least in part on the engine speed.

  • Patent number: 4433379
Abstract: The destination of commands provided by a microcomputer to an input-output unit over a data bus is provided without an address bus, while a control circuit in the input-output unit is connected with the microcomputer by connections for only three binary signals in one direction, "clear", chip-select and data strobe and one in the other, namely interrupt. The control circuit has a decoder connected to the data bus that sorts out the commands, feeding the outputs through a gate array that are enabled by the chip-select and data strobe signals for timing. Commands for switching, such as beginning and ending counts, and so on are one-byte commands directly transmitted to the appropriate circuits of the input-output. Read and write commands are two-byte commands sequenced by a sequencing and lockout circuit, the circuit selected in first byte being activated to read or write to or from the data bus in the second byte while the decoder is blocked.

  • Patent number: 4432325
Abstract: An electronic control system for internal combustion engines which has signal generator circuits for the fuel metering and for the ignition. During starting, especially in the case of cold starting, three different phases are provided for controlling the injected fuel quantity and for regulating the fuel quantity downward; furthermore, the ignition angle is adjusted in accordance with temperature and rpm. In terms of the fuel metering, the boundary between the first and second phase is dependent on the rpm or on a maximum total number of revolution cycles, and the end of the second phase is predetermined by a minimum metering signal which is dependent on temperature. In the ignition system, there is an increasing adjustment toward "early" approximately in the rpm range between 200 and 600 revolutions per minute as well as an increasing adjustment toward "late" as the temperature increases.

  • Patent number: 4431953
Abstract: Commutation of the stator windings of a synchronous motor energized by a d.c. supply is controlled by comparison of voltages induced in two stator windings neither of which is a winding previously energized nor a winding about be energized. For speed control, turning on of the winding next energized can be delayed controllably. Motor current during start-up or overload can be limited by chopping, with a variable keying ratio, the d.c. supply connection to the motor during the first 80% of the period of energization of each stator winding. For reducing delay in starting, the rotor may be brought into a particular position automatically every time the motor is stopped or, in the case of a fuel pump motor for an injection type internal combustion engine, just before starting the engine through a supplementary contact controlled by the ignition key. Starting up can be provided by two initial pulses of commutation provided by means of an oscillator and two transistors.

  • Patent number: 4430974
Abstract: A fuel injection pump for an internal combustion engine is proposed having an adjustment piston for the adjustment of the onset of the injection, on which an rpm-proportional fuel pressure determined by a pressure control valve and a pressure valve placed behind it and controllable in dependence on temperature acts. An adjustment device controls a full load stop for the limitation of the full-load fuel maximally injected by the fuel injection pump. The adjustment device has a movable piston for this purpose disposed movably in a work bore. The circumference of the piston is formed as a cam and is scanned by a scanner determining the position of the full load stop. The movable piston is acted on one side by the fuel pressure in the suction chamber and on the other side by a spring and by the fuel pressure between the pressure control valve and the pressure valve. This results in a compensation of the fuel pressure force at the movable piston, which is caused by the pressure valve.
