Abstract: In accordance with one embodiment, an access control system is disclosed. The access control system comprises an access control panel including a touchable surface, a multi-dimensional touch sensor under the touchable surface, and a processor coupled to the multi-dimensional touch sensor. The multi-dimensional touch sensor captures a multi-dimensional motion signal including a micro-motion signal component representing neuro-mechanical micro-motions of a user touching the multi-dimensional touch sensor. The processor performs signal processing of the multi-dimensional motion signal to obtain the micro-motion signal component; and extracts unique values of predetermined features from the micro-motion signal component to form a neuro-fingerprint (NFP) that uniquely identifies the user. The NFP can be used as a gatekeeper to control entry into homes, offices, buildings, or other real properly typically protected by access control.

Abstract: Certain example embodiments relate to ultra-fast laser treatment of silver-inclusive (low-emissivity) low-E coatings, coated articles including such coatings, and/or associated methods. The low-E coating is formed on a substrate (e.g., borosilicate or soda lime silica glass), with the low-E coating including at least one sputter-deposited silver-based layer, and with each said silver-based layer being sandwiched between one or more dielectric layers. The low-E coating is exposed to laser pulses having a duration of no more than 10?12 seconds, a wavelength of 355-500 nm, and an energy density of more than 30 kW/cm2. The exposing is performed so as to avoid increasing temperature of the low-E coating to more than 300 degrees C. while also reducing (a) grain boundaries with respect to, and vacancies in, each said silver-based layer, (b) each said silver-based layer's refractive index, and (c) emissivity of the low-E coating compared to its as-deposited form.

Abstract: A system for determining a channel margin of a data transmission channel (DTC) using error correction under real-world channel conditions is described. The system includes a monitoring unit, an operating state determining unit and a data processing unit. The monitoring unit monitors data transmission along the DTC and estimates a statistical distribution of errors (H) in the transmission of data. The operating state determining unit determines a current value of an operating state parameter for the DTC. The data processing unit determines a reference channel margin associated with said current value of the operating state parameter for a reference channel and the error correction scheme employed, provides a statistical distribution of errors (HR) associated with said reference channel for said current value of said operating state parameter, compute a deviation of H and HR, and computes a reduction of the reference channel margin.
